Volume scatter not working?

For some reason today and yesterday ive been trying to use the volume scatter node for a fog effect but now its not doing that its just turns the mesh black, cycles btw

you sure u didnt crank up its anisotropy?
also try to reload blender, cycles like to turn materials to full black for no reason

i figured it out my dumbass been connecting volume to color by accident
