Import 2D Animation PNG's without black background
Trying out the 2d Animation mode but all the pngs cover the layers below them up with black. So while the whole figure is still viewable its black and only the top layer is colored.
How do I undo that. All help forums/tutorials are either for 3D or are outdated

sounds like Blender’s not reading the alpha channel on your PNGs correctly.

when you import the image as a plane or into the 2D workspace (like with grease pencil or image strips), do this:
1. make sure your PNG actually has transparency (open it in another app just to double-check). 2. in the Shader Editor, check the material for that image. by default, Blender might use an "Image Texture" node plugged into "Base Color" only. 3. to fix that: -- plug the Alpha output from the Image Texture node into the Alpha input of the Principled BSDF. -- then, in the Material Settings panel (right side), set Blend Mode to Alpha Blend, and Shadow Mode to None.
that should get rid of the black background and let transparency work properly.

also if you’re doing this in the Video Sequence Editor, you need to enable “Alpha Over” in strip blend mode settings.

let me know if you still get issues with it
