Exporting as MD2 with animations?
Hello, dear Blender community on Steam.

I like a Sonic fan-game called Sonic Robo Blast 2. It's a Doom engine mod, with both software (CPU) and OpenGL (GPU) rendering. All objects in-game are rendered as 2-dimensional sprites, but in OpenGL rendering, one can replace the sprites with 3-dimensional MD2 files.

Now, I know how to export a model from Blender as OBJ, import it into another program, and export as a static MD2, which works fine and all... but non-static objects use animated MD2 files, and I only know my way around skeletal animation (which OBJ doesn't support (it doesn't support animation at all)).

So I'm looking for some way to take a model I have in Blender with skeletal animation, and in some way or another (except using earlier versions of Blender), turn that model into a vertex-animated MD2 model. I don't care if I need to use another program (as long as it's legally available for free, and not just as a timed trial version), I'd just like to make 3-dimensional animated MD2 models for the Doom engine.

TL;DR: I'd like some way, with or without other programs, to get a model in Blender into the MD2 format with animations.

Yes, but I'm specifically looking for (either) an add-on that works with the current version of Blender, (or something I can export to that keeps animation, which I can then import in another (free) tool and then export as MD2.)

...That's...that's actually a pretty good idea. Thanks.
