help : how to make a cylinder end a dome shape?
i have a model which started off as a cylinder, using loop cuts and extrusions, changed the shape. I need to make the end of the cylinder a dome shape and cant find videos on that, i found how to make a dome and how to make a cylinder, but not how to turn the end of a cylinder into a dome
any help would be appreciated, thanks

I think theres a curve tool that may help with that, use a mirror modifier and it should be easy

You could take a sphere with the same number of edges as your cylinder, delete half of it, and put the remaining half on the cylinder.

2 methods...

The first as still__alive suggests with a sphere with the same number of edges or second, use proportional editing...

hang on, I'm going to fix that GIF up. I'll repost the new link

pte jack and still__alive, much appreciated, im totally new to blender so id have to find out the how do i's for every aspect of a suggestion, the 3 aspects still__alive outlined sound really simple on the face of it.. but for example once i create a sphere, delete half of it proves really difficult - without inadvertently selecting pat of the cylinder or a line (like an edge of a face i think its called) ..quickly becomes a right old mess lol.. but with something visual like pte jack posted, brings the words into context- thanks guys!

Switch to wireframe mode so you can see (and select) through the mesh. Then hit b to box select or c for circle select then drag your mouse around the vertices you want to select.

Or in the outliner (the area on the right where all the objects are listed) click the eyeball beside the cylinder and hide it so only the sphere is visible, then select the part of the sphere you want to get rid of and delete it. When trying to do the selection like this, it is always best to be in Wireframe mode (press Z - Wireframe), use orthographic view mode (1 on the Numpad) and be in face select mode (top left of the 3D viewer (the vertex/edge/face buttons). And if you're deleting proper faces, then use the X - Faces delete option. This way only the selected faces will be deleted. Using X- Vertex or X - Edge will delete stuff on the other side of the select because you're deleting stuff from that other side when you delete it. (Kind of hard to explain in print.)

I know this is an old post. I need to do the same recently but can’t find a simple solution so I created an add-on for it. Hope it helps somebody else: kray3d[dot]gumroad[dot]com/l/dome_cap
