can someone please tell me why blender isn't letting me open my blender files anymore unless i open steam then go into blender and open the files from their.

I think what you need to do is register your steam blender with windows so you get file associations and preview in browser.

baiscly go to the steam blender directory, conjure a command prompt by typing cmd into the windows search bar
change directory to the steam blender directory chdir -> filepath
then blender.exe -r to register for all users.

Or simply go to File -> Preferences -> System and under "Operating System Settings" press the "Make Default" button.
