Blender
.dds file textures don't show in cycles render.
Is anyone dealing with this problem, and if so, how have you solved it or get around it?

Hmm,I used to mod some of .dds file but I never used them in Blender ,Why don't you just convert them to some other types for texture format.

Just open them in any program you prefer but yeah you also need an add-on for .dds file as well.
After that just export them to standard format ex. Jpeg,BMP....

I don't think Blender can also read .dds file as an image texture as well.

Texture have to be loaded through Nodes for cycles don't they?? The textures would have to be loaded through an image node in the compositor, I think (Just a guess here???)

Yes, they do. They just aren't showing in Cycles render is all. They load with the Blender Render fine, but it's the Cycles I'm wondering about and i'm wondering if there's something I can add or do to fix that.

If you say so,I think that is because Blender can not read .dds format as an image texture for Cycle rendering.

Since Cycle render and Blender render are not the same rendering process.

Frankly,Do you really have to use .dds as an image file ? .dds mostly used in game engine but it's not very friendly with 3D tools like 3d max,Maya,Blender.

I did not use 3d Max and Maya for an age but it seems like they are not support .dds file.
Even so,I might be wrong as well,I am not sure how the current state of those programs are.

I don't have to. I've already converted those files into png. it's just a bit tedious to have to convert them one by one in GIMP to get them to work in Cycles, unless there's a way to convert a bunch of them in one go.
Have you looked at something like this?
