Blender
2D Expression Animation Problems (solved)
so I wanted to animate facial expressions on my character so I found this tutorial that teaches how to use images as planes and animate faces that way. I was following it up until a part where you have to add the other images under a "image sequence". when I added them though it added them as separate images instead of the "sequence". and every added image was under "single image", I tried changing them all but I can't change between any of the images, meaning I can't animate them like the tutorial could do. the tutorial itself also didn't mention any problems other than just saying "change to rendered view", I don't know what that means so I went to the comments. every comment I came across though just acted like this issue doesn't exist. I tried looking up solutions but all I found was tutorials for a completely different method. If anyone knows the solution to this problem or a way to find the solution I would really appreciate it.

(this specific problem has been solved, but this whole thread is filled with solutions that I hope will help others with similar problems)

heres the tutorial I used:

"I'm going to make sure this "single image" is set to "image sequence"".

I'm guessing you didn't do this step. You gotta do that part before importing, it won't work after.

I clicked the "single image" drop down thing and clicked on "image sequence", do I have to do something else to set it?
If you just imported a single image as plane, you can simply swap the texture in the shader editor for the whole set of textures, by simply clicking the X next to the texure slot, click the folder icon, browse to the 25 faces, select them all and hit open image again.
Choose image Sequence in the Texture node and it should work.

Edit: He Changes to rendered view to allow to see the texture in the viewport (either textured solid/ material / rendered view), since defaul solid view doesn't show textures unless you tell it to in the viewport dropdown.

Did you select all the images you want to use at once? You import them all at the same time, not one by one.

I think what happened is that it imported the images as 25 individual planes...but that's just a guess.

These simple little things are the hardest to explain sometimes :D

What you want is just a single plane that has all the 25 images attached to it.
Are you familiar with the shader editor?

not really to be honest
It's the workspace open on the left in the video. It'sbasicly a node representation of the materials surface.

To elaborate:
When you add an 'Image as Plane' what actually happens is, it creates a plane with the aspect ratio of the image (handy), then adds a Material that has the Image texture to be the Surface output of that shader. All in one click.
It's really simple, all you need to do is browse to the face folder again and replace the single texture with the set of 25 images.

do I do that by clicking "open Image"?
that doesn't seem to be working

So this is the first time I've done this myself, I'm testing the files myself now. I have it working on my end.

I'm thinking about where you could be going wrong, I have a few things to take care of so I'll be back in 15 - 20 minutes if I come up with anything. If you could share any more details about what is happening in your scene and/or some screenshots of your whole Blender window it might be of assistance.
In your screenshot you have not changed the "frames", "start frames" and the "offset" sliders. Trying changing that to however many images you have.

ok, I'll try that

You have to do that step or it doesn't work.

Edit: And it works for me. You gotta be missing one of the steps somewhere.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong anymore cause that didn't work
