To have .blend files associated in the file brrowser with blender (including prreviews) you have to register blender with windows.

There's an easier solution. Just open the steam version of Blender and at the very top-left of the window go "File->Open" and simply look for the .blend file you are looking for.

That is not an easier solution, the whole point is that you don't have to do that and can simply doubleclick on a .blend file.

That said, there might be an easier solutiong: There is a setting in preferences->system->operating system settings to "Make this Blender installation the default", that should/might register it in Windows. Never tried it but I can't imagine what else this would be for?

I think it is an easier solution, as it removes the need to find a fix that might need further explaination. I certainly agree that it would be 'quicker' to double click the file if you are working from your windows-Folders exclusively. But after several years of working in 3D.. Getting by a problem without having to do 'complicated fixes' is a very benefitial way to solve things.

But then again, this might not be a complicated matter at all, but we are all on different knowledge-levels. And since the person above me already explained a proper fix to the problem? I wanted to simply present a work-around that required no fix and was therefore an alternative for someone, who may or may not be comfortable in doing things inside of windows.

How is typing cmd and then a single line of text a complicated fix. Especially if it also results in file previews in the browser.

As I said, it's not. You mis-read what I was saying.
