Error trying to import Blender 2.79b Collada file
I was trying to open a Collada (dae) file, but it wouldn't open in Blender 3.0. Looking into youtube videos, I decided to change the file extension to xml and open it in Notepad++ only to find that the file was created in Blender 2.79b. Going back and installing Blender 2.79b allows it to be opened just fine. Any idea what's been changed with the importer since then? If it helps figure out the issue, launching Blender through ConsoleZ spits out this error message:
Schema validation (Error): Error: ERROR_REQUIRED_ATTRIBUTE_MISSING Element: texture, Attribute: texcoord, Line: 62, Column: 31, Additional: The Collada import has been forced to stop.
The UVs are outside the mapping texture file's area if it helps with this issue.

The importer probably hasn'T been updated, but since you already managed to import to 2.79 try this:
Import your File as you had into 2.79 and save the object as .blend file in 2.79.
Back in 3.0 try Append (FILE->Append) the object (or it's whole collection) into 3.0 from 2.79 blend file.
Geometry should be upwards compatible in most cases so that's a workaround for the time being.
Since it's convenient to simply download older generation blender versions as .zip files from blender .org, you can keep legacy versions around to still have access to legacy functions which haven' been updated or were dropped entirely.

Error message saying it's not a library or something like that. It gets cut off. Importing the file works, but the texture doesn't seem like it's applied.

You should be able to just open the Blender 2.79 blend file in Blender 3.0 without appending it. Just make sure that LoadUI is unchecked so Blender doesn't try to load the 2.79 environment.
