Help! Double click doesn't work!
I saw in some tutorials people making double-click to select a group of edges or polygons refered to one object or mesh, but... It doesn't work. My wife makes the same on another PC and it works, but I can't! When did I turn the wrong way or what did I accidentially ruin? What options are responsible for this?

Double click doesn't do anything with the default settings. Maybe compare the preferences of your and your wife's install to see what is different? Maybe she switched to a different key map.

To select everything use the "a" key.

"A" key selects the entire object, but not all faces/edges/vertices. It isn't exactly what I am looking for.

If you are in face select mode, it selects all faces.
If you are in edge select mode, it selects all edges.
If you are in vertex select mode, it selects all vertices.

if that is not what you want, you need to be more specific.
With holding "shift" it selects several edges/faces etc., with double click it selects ONE edge or smth. and cancels the selection. So... I don't know, may be there is something broken in viewport modes or in my "Preferences", but still I have no solution.

Well, if you ever feel like telling us what you even want to do, maybe someone can tell you "the solution". But since that seems not to be the case I can't help you.

Maybe you mean selecting single connected mesh out of all the meshes in this object? Then hover your mouse and press "L". If not - then, as The Renderer says, you need to be more specific. Also if you cannot describe it in English - then you can show us a video that demonstrates what you need to do. Or you can try to describe it in Russian.
I'll try to record it and send the link tomorrow. Or to find the way to describe what exactly is wrong.

Here are couple of screenshots of selection types I'd like to make with double-click.

I mean, if I make a double-click on the white selected part (edge/face etc.), it selects all the yellow ones. For now I don't know, how to explain it in more specific way. "A" or "L" select the entire mesh, and this is NOT what I am looking for.

The first one is called Loop Select and is called with Alt + LMB click (when LMB is used for selection). But this keyboard shortcut should not be intercepted by your window manager - and it is intercepted in some Linux distributions with the default settings.

Second... I have no idea which select operation can do this in one go, because there is an alternative Loop Select operation that is called with Ctrl + Alt + LMB, but it doesn't work with triangle fan. To make a selection like this, I either use Circle Select (C) or select the vertex in the center and press Ctrl + "Numpad +" which means "grow selection".

And no, double-clicking my LMB works the same way as single LMB-click, and only selects one element in my Blender setup.

As I already told you above, you need to look into your preferences (set the keymap to "industry standard"). It will allow selecting edge loops with a double click. But there is no way to select that cylinder cap with a double click.

Edit: I strongly suggest not to change the keymap, though, you seem to be a beginner and if you change it, no tutorials will work for you. Use Alt+LMB as Strechyf says above.

Ok, I'll try all these keys out without changing default key bindings. Thanks a lot for your quick responses and good luck to you both guys!
