If this isn't working u can try retopology
https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Manual/Modeling/Meshes/Editing/Retopo
Think he said 50 steps not sub divisions :)
Can't think of any situation where you would need anywhere near 50 sub-d's and my pc would crash out long before that too... :D
@flump like @HomoMilch says use modifiers, you don't have to apply them so you can switch the sub-d level up and down or even off at any time!
Don't bother trying to do a retop of your cube, you will get yourself into an even bigger mess. Delete it and create a new one if you have not done anything more with the cube.
If you have done stuff with it then there are a few modifiers you can try :
1) Decimate
2) Re-mesh
3) Shrink wrap, used on another mesh that surrounds the original
One of these may get you close to where you want to be...
You can also change the number on "undo" steps in the prefs, you might want to up this to the maximum though it will progressively use up more RAM.
You really should do some tutorials like I said, you keep getting yourself into a mess which would not happen if you gave yourself a solid foundation in Blender via this method.
yes i would propose the same as mr. chappy well says. I had this mess too in the beginning, There is one thing more: SAVE your progress and save for sure before applying modifiers. Dont be affraid to have many blenderfiles for one project. Save and be save!!
