Report a translation problem
There are a couple ways you can try. You can use a boolean object that is a plane with a very thin solidify modifier on it, but this can have really funky results if your topology isn't pretty good.
Or you could try just selecting the part of the mesh that you want to be physically separate and press P to separate by selection, and then add a bevel modifier to both parts. That will round out the edge where the two new pieces meet and it will appear to have a line.
Or just create edge loops where you want a line and then CTRL-B to bevel them, and make the bevel only have 2 segments and make the bevel very thin, then extrude+scale the thin new faces to create a line.
