https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrnSACiTJ4

Because that teaches you how to apply simple effects (such as smoke or fire) to the objects. This is helping you in a lot of ways. Btw since he was using version 2.8 but not version 2.82, the things are a bit different

1. Add monkey
2. select monkey in object mode
3. F3 -> add Quick Smoke
4. (different to video) select monkey
5. choose Physics->Setting->Flow Type : "FIre + Smoke"
6. (different to video) select "Smoke Domain" object
7. in physics panel click "Bake Data" and wait... (progress in status bar on the bottom)
8. after it 's finished click play to start animation.

You also may need to switch the "Smoke Domain"'s cache setting to MODULAR as the default setting suppresses the "Bake Data" option from view.

... also, sorry Monkey.

So this just isn't working for me. I'm trying everything and when smoke actually appears, it doesn't move at all. It doesn't move when I play the animation, and it just sits there completely stationary when I zoom in and out of the monkey.

I created the monkey head, applied quick smoke to it, clicked on the monkey head and then applied smoke and fire to it, clicked the box around the monkey and switched that to domain, baked the data, and then that's the result I got.
