All user preference lost?
Hi. I just ran Blender and apparently everything has gone default.

I tried to find preference I saved, but it seems there's only default presets.
I never removed Blender. and I never touched Blender for a while.
Hotkey settings and add-ons are all gone too. Now I have to set things up from the scratch. :(

So, is there a way to retrieve my previous settings?
And is there specific cause of this?

Thank you.

Copy user prefs from previous version. New updates usually change user settings directory.

you COULD press "restore preferences" when you installed new version

Hi,

yes there is a method to get your old configs back.

Go to
"C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender"

The YOURUSERNAME will be a folder with your user account. u really cant miss it. If u dont see the appdata folder, press LEFT ALT, press on tools, folder options. enable "show/view hidden files"

When u reach the path i copied above u should see atleast a folder called "2.79" and maybe more. If u have another folder called "2.78" or with a lower number open it. There is a config golder, open again. Now u should see atleast 3 files. Copy em all, paste em into that "2.79/Config" folder.

Open Blender again and see if its the right config for u :)

Small advise. Create a backup copy of the "2.79" folder. Just copy, paste it and rename "2.79Backup". In case the settings u got from the older versions arent working.

I didn't knew where the config is stored. Never suspected Roaming at least.
I found it and restored the settings successfully. Thank you!! :steamhappy:
Have a great day.
