where did my old file go?
i had allot of work done on one file without any saving, i opened the old version of the file to look at something, it didnt ask me to save or anything, it just changed.

i looked at the ways you can recover lost files, the auto save already saved over my work, and i cant find any .blend1 files

Copy the blend1 file and rename the extension from blend1 to blend. Open the new blend file.

Sorry, must have misread your original post. I thought you said you had a blend1 file.

Check your temp folder for a blend file (not the quit.blend at first, that's your last blender quit file and is usually just a cube or your last session.

If there are none there, then check the quit.blend file.

(usually found in {username}\appdata\local\temp or the file path you set up in User Preferences - Files Tab - Temp))

Also, you might want to check {username}\appdata\roaming\bender foundation\blender\{blender Version}\autosave
