Hiding marked UV seams in render mode?
The edges I've marked for UV unwrapping show as white lines when i move a certain distance from the model in render mode and textured viewport. Is there a way to hide these or do I have to clear seams? (Which I'd prefer not to do in case i wanna go back and revise the textures.)

No, actually i think it's a problem with bilinear interpolation and mip-mapping.

So i just need an easy way to extend the textured areas beyond the mapped bits so prevent that.

EDIT: Or I could just set it to closest instead of linear...

With the screen overlays: you can turn em on and off altogether when clicking that globe icon next to where the settings for the viewport overlays are. That way none of the UI stuff gets displayed in the viewport.
