Importing DirectX files
Is there any plugin available that allows me to import DirectX (.x) files into Blender? If so, please lead me to them. Thanks :)

I'm guessing there is not, and I'm not sure that DirectX files are even mesh files that you could import. I would've assumed those are just files that help the DirectX rendering system or whatever it is, do its thing. But I'm going to leave that up to you to find out on Google. :P

DirectX (.X) model format has nothing to do with DirectX 9,10,11 etc.it just shares the name because it was a Microsoft propriety modelling format. It is a standalone model format, similar to FBX (in fact it's actually better in many ways, but i won't go into that because it tends to cause arguments with FBX die hards).

Blender has had DirectX (.x format) support in the default add-ons almost since the beginning, but since 2.80 it has disappeared, which leaves me royally screwed.

I spent a lot of money years back to have some custom software made which only supports models in .x format, Blender was a great choice for modelling because exported the format i need, i love the new Blender, but it's absolutely useless to me and i'm having to lock myself into using 2.79 with no more future updates or add-ons :(

Please can someone convert the .X exporter to 2.8?

I guess a workaround is to install an older version of Blender where the import files for the .x format is supported, then export it to a different format and use in 2.8. Maybe even rip the importer to 2.8?

Edit: I was looking to IMPORT files from .X, not export them

We've never had a fully working .x importer, there was one but it was 50/50 whether the import would work properly. We have however always had an exporter, which is what i need.

Ah, interesting.

I assume if the format isn't old and out of use at this point, someone will eventually get around to updating the addons for 2.8 at some point.

It is an out of date format, no longer being updated. However there are still quite a few pieces of software that uses it, and the fact that it's no longer being altered should make it more stable for creating an exporter/importer because there's no issue with it being updated and breaking import/export, unlike FBX which changes so frequently that you never know if a supplied model will work in an engine or not because they only support specific version, It's also still one of the few easy to use formats that supports animation without issues, which is why quite a few pieces of software still use it.

Just save as 2.8, then start a new file in 2.79, goodor to file/append then open your 2.8 save, go to the object folder and load the model from there, then you can export it as .x from 2.79. It's an easy workaround, but it would still be better to do it straight from 2.8.

It is extremely important for game makers that .X format be exportable from blender! I don't think the devs understand how many indie game makers use that thing! I, for one, will have to go back to 2.79 and stay there. I don't need the fuzzy stuff anyway. I just need a solid low poly character and object creator for AGK that support animation and texturing. if things don't change, i am gonna program my own program to create those and i am no longer gonna use Blender.
