2.7x UI for 2.8?
Is there any way to get the "old" 2.7x UI for 2.8? Like, an add-on or a hidden function that I didn't see because the new UI is clustered in submenues?
By now I only found the "2.7x keymap" option, but nothing for the UI itself.

Also, no, I won't go back to 2.79, because 2.8 is a huge improvement in terms of features; the new UI just makes it tedious and time-consuming to use them.

Not that I'm aware of, I think it's just going to have to be a learning curve since having to relearn parts, try to guess parts....I keep hearing it's better but it's mostly confusing for me so far.

Hi,

Sorry but no not at this time. You may with practice find that it becomes faster to use than 2.79, only time will tell...

2 weeks of constantly using 2.80 and you will realize that the new UI is much better than the old one... damn if there were such an uproar when Substance painter changed it's UI ...

It's gonna take me forever to learn the new UI............ not so much for the actual modelling part, but i also use Blender as a video editor, and that's the part that's really gonna screw me over......

Hm, that's sad. Thanks for informing me though! :handshake:

You may not have realized it so far, but I'm using 2.8 for more than two weeks already (pretty much since the first real BETA came out), and it's just not as intuitive as 2.79 in my opinion. Clickable buttons and clustered submenues (not to forget the missing [N]/[T] tabs) aren't ideal when it comes to speed.

huh the N tab is still there and most of the things from the t ab moved over to it, or into the pref tab where the render settings are and stuff the icon with the screwdriver and the wrench...I never used any UI elements to get stuff done anyway, only all the shortcuts ^^. The submenues got just added for those who switch over from 3Ds Max or maya, cause those are used to find any single function in some menu of sorts. Most of the functions which are in within these menues weren't even to be found anywhere in 2.79 . They were mostly hidden behind hotkeys and now can be found also within menues which is actually quite nice for beginners. And looking at all the support Blender gets now within the industry i am pretty happy to be a blender user

As I said. I'm happy that 2.8 happened, I'm just not happy about the UI choice; I've used the [T] tab very often, e.g. for quick shading, reevaluating normals or quick physics changes. Or I've used [W] to quickly remove doubles, and I kinda liked how everything render-related was within one pref tab instead of 3 (especially for the new ones aren't even split up in a useful way, why is color management @performance/@light paths and not @file output/@dimensions, or why is mesh data not near object data?).
Sure, Blender 2.8 has new shortcuts for the cluster submenues (though symmetrize, shading, weights are all under "mesh" which isn't shortcut-accessible, so I now have to use [W] and another manual shortcut for that menue which was easily accesible via [T] before), but most of them are either rearranged in ways that make me hit more buttons (remove doubles, for example, is now in merge [Alt]+[M] for some reason). That's the only reason I don't like the new UI, it takes longer to get to things, despite looking slick.

Quick tipp for you: Use the new quick favorites menu. Right click on a menu item you want to use often (like re-calc normals) and pick "Add to Quick Favorites".

Then hit the q key to open it up at any time. Edit: Of course you can add lots of favorites, not just one.

And as for the rest: I can understand your point, it is annoying to not have all the things available the way we used to, but you will get used to how it works now quickly and it will go just as well as it did before. Remember to also customize and use the hotkeys for your purposes, it saves a ton of time and clicking.

I have to agree. I've been using 2.8 for months, and seriously for a month. I don't like the new UI. At all. The tools panel is now basically for beginners only. It just feels like the whole UI has sacrificed utility for the sake of flashiness, for lack of a better term.

The previous UI was godawful. People just got used to it. The new UI is much better, its foundation is solid and well thought out. The catch is that since it is new, like 2.5's UI change before it, there will be a period of refinement and polish that needs to take place.

Remember after 2.5, many users complained about the UI as well, preferring the older one (which was even worse). Now they love the 2.5-2.79 UI, and hate the 2.8 one. This is just going to repeat the usual pattern. Give it some time.

Yeah, I've heard the "good ol' 2.5 UI story" that often now that I'm quite sick of it. I'm not talking about the look alone (which is still questionable in my opinion), but speed; cluster menues, buttons, split tabs in 2.8, which were simple menues or shortcuts before. Yeah, there are new shortcuts, but most of them are still slower to reach or take more button presses. Therefore, I'd like to have the 2.79ish approach back, whether the visuals are the same or not.

And I've given it some time already, for I'm BETA using 2.8 since it came out, and I'm still way slower with it because of the things I listed above. But hey, gotta streamline everything I guess.
