[Solved] Slower and slower soft body physics.. What the hell is going on?
I open fresh blender 2.79.
Make a test sphere.
Apply soft body with general settings (no change)
It starts out at 40 fps, and loops fine.
But if i start tweaking only ONE single setting, for example, Goal strength minimum from 0 to 0.5
it halves the FPS down to 20.
If i set the settings back to 0 it halves down again to 10 fps.

I can delete scene and make a new one but then it starts at 10 fps (same test with sphere)

i tried following:
Change blender install path.
factory reset blender UI.
change temp folder.
Save file.
Save fil to different drive.

I have an alright rig. gtx1080, i7 4ghz, 2x ssd brand new. win7 64 pro and 32gb ram at 3200mhz.

I just cannot for the life of me figure this out.
What seems to solve the problem is restart computer, then its the same all over from the beginning.

Even tested different blender versions, (as far as blender.org) bother to work.

I changed from cuda to cpu no change.
Been following all measurements of the computer. but no info at all.
No increase in GPU usage, no increase in CPU, no increase in ram. only disk info seems to spike. But i have 5 different drives. all cannot be ♥♥♥♥ed at the same time for blender.

Please if you have any idea of whats going on please help me out.

Blender is working fine with rendering things. then i can see it uses gpu to the max.
renders are fast and good.
But that soft body physics seems to eat up SOMETHING on my comp and only a restart can free it.

It was not like this 1 week ago..........

Blender use one core of CPU if that core (0) is high used by others programs or games then Blender goes slow. That problem occurs in 3Dmax, Maya3D, Cinema 4D, Bryce, etc...

Maybe can get better perform if you delete blender complete, deleting all folders (including Steam/common/Blender and %ROAMING% --> local/Blender folder) with that you got a clean blender config and any problem is solved. Doing this you will lost config's and addons. And the reinstall blender. To ensure is that, only download Blender 2.78.zip (portable) from blender and try to do the same, if works good then is that config file isn't work correctly, if not maybe something of your hardware isn't work correctly.

This occurs when blender updates and import old config to the new update. Thats happened to me from 2.77 to 2.78 and some months ago from 2.78a to 2.79

I have a simulation with a flag (small, about 40 faces), the simple fact of activating "soft body" makes the frames fall to 40 - 50 FPs (with 5 flag goes to 2 - 5 FPs), I have an i5 3570 (Quad Core 3.4GHz) (but only one core is used). Using the "Bake" function you can make the simulation work at 60 FPs or 120 or those that reach your screen, but in exchange for using a lot of space on the HDD / SSD.

But one sphere isn't enough for get that frame rate.

A fix that I could recommend, and I feel idiotic for saying this, but you could set the priority of the blender program higher in task manager. You do this on Windows 10 by 1.opening task manager 2.Right Clicking Blender, when it's open 3.clicking "go to details" 4.right clicking blender.exe 5.hovering over "set priority" 6. then choosing an option (I recommend high)

No, did not work. The error must come from windows or ram i believe. Can you test this? open blender, make a sphere, apply soft body and try adjust settings several time while in real time playback, and see if your computer can handle that at 60 fps?

Problem solved after many hours of tinkering.. It turns out it was the new Bit defender anti virus and its advanced threat defence, adding blender to the white list solved the problem. Somehow Bit defender limited resources to the application to prevent something thats beyond me. Anyways, thanks for help. I hope this info can help out someone with similar problem.
