I never do.
Blender has almost everything you need as the others 3d software should have but offcourse not every features included in Blender.
Blender however is compleatly free
When you mom says its too good to be true, maybe she's partially right. The part that might be considered too good to be true is that for free, you are not getting software quite as powerful as the industry standards like Maya, 3ds Max, or Zbrush. But it's pretty close. Damn close. For 0$ instead of 800$ - 1500$+, you can't really complain.
It's standalone software.
On the other hand, there are plenty of addons for Blender to help with specific things.
