Can anyone explain the dark zone for me?

Just returned to the game and I'm clueless about it. I'm down to play with somebody to explore it.

Dark Zone is a PVP and PVE zone. Its just like the regular world, you go around, shoot bots, loot stuff. The catch is anything you loot you have to extract via a helicopter at an extraction point and thats about where thirsty PVPeeners will show up and murk you for your loot, or just for the fun of it....

Don't touch it with a pole the length of Long Island, it's filled to the brim with cheaters. If you want good gear while sticking to pure PvE, play Underground.

Eh, hit your open world bosses. Underground loot honestly suuuucks. I would know, ive got 4 characters max UG lvl, another like lvl 38 and yeah....ive been in there. The good loot is quite rare. Meanwhile, open world bosses, ive gotten easily, 80-85% of my good gear from that.

Yup, Division 1 is a shining example of Ubisoft game development. A great game that falls short of its full potential.

It needs better loot across all modes, Challenging and LEgendary in all missions, a weapons rebalance pass. Another land expansion, maybe clear up to and just past Central Park, or back to Brooklyn....

Oh yeah, im under no delusions there is ever going to be anything further done to the game, I just hold it against Ubisoft that they let such a good game go to rest so half baked....

I run the darkzone a fair bit and dont run into cheats to often, one time I died from long range in a few shots but that could even be exploits.

I extract a lot of loot all the time without seeing anyone, I only mainly go for the division tech for upgrading I still need a lot of Division Tech so i loot the tech crates and dont care too much about extracting green crates but I will occasionally get a green crate and extract it.

I PVE the whole zone a far bit and not see anyone quite often. When I do see people I leave for a while, I also have no problem walking up to someone elses extract and putting my own loot on the line with theirs knowing they could be a cheater that mows me down or takes my ♥♥♥♥ but I also dont give too much of a ♥♥♥♥ about the loot in the first place so I can be care free with it. If a cheater does kill me and takes what I drop its not a big deal I assume its a cheat or exploit and just go again and just ignore it.

I wont even go pick up my loot I dropped just ignore it and go get more loot and more tech and do more extracts.

There are even times with lots of people I see and none cheat and we sometimes just loot and shoot together and extract together.

There was another time someone stole my loot off the line and I killed them so I know they were not cheating. I didnt get all the loot back nor did I care, I was just happy I actually killed someone in PVP lol.

Or you could not do any of that in fear of getting killed and lose pointless loot, you do you.

The dark zone feels more threatening than any other part of the game, except for Survival.

Stealth is the best way to play it. Avoid contact from all the patrolling factions until you're ready to take them on. You have to fight gold elite named characters in the dark zone for them to drop any unique and useful loot. You can also clear out landmarks, and use darkzone keys to unlock higher end stash crates.

After you have obtained the loot, you have to extract it by calling the helicopter for extraction using the flare gun, waiting for it to arrive, and then connecting it to the cable for pickup. That can be a challenge, if there are Rogues around, or any of the other roving patrols.

Playing all the regular missions get repetitive but the darkzone always has a bit a fear and trepidation, because almost everything in there wants to kill you. And they are always purple or gold in strength, which means a tough fight. But if you extract, some of the sealed mystery caches can contain classified gear and unique weapons like The House, and Devil's Heel.
I'm not saying its easy especially the more north you go, but it is worth it. You also need a level 4 respirator mask to go into the underground areas which are always contaminated. But it is doable.

Twink the DZ using lower Ilvl gear. Most hackers are in the top bracket and you can build full sets of classified with a max lvl yellow weapon. Easy way to farm mats and if anyone challenges you they're dead legit inside 2-3 seconds
