Legendary missions : What am i doing wrong?

So i've been playing for a while and wanted to get some exotic items but trying to solo legendary difficulty has been basically pain. The enemies are just too spongy and delete you instantly. I have to dump like a whole mag of a sniper rifle just in order to kill a single basic enemy.

I have %23 armor damage (%44 while using an AR + extra %11 AR damage from one of my gears) + %11 elite damage and 280+ score weapons on my build yet they still take way too long to kill. What am i supposed to do here? I see people literally eating through their health when playing on pubs yet no matter what i do they just won't die. I always have to find some weird spot where they can't shoot me and i just sit there constantly pressing left click.

Is legendary difficulty just meant to not be played as solo?

You can solo it (I would recommend Tactician) but it is not meant to. It is difficult and time consuming, especially without classified sets.
If you need exotics you can farm open world bosses.

Oh i do have classified sets but i'm kinda getting there still. don't have a full set yet i'm trying to go for predators mark or reclaimer (i think?) for the full set.

I have a completely disgusting classified striker build that I go through all the legendary missions solo with. Just be careful, use cover and take your time. It's long and challenging work. I wish you patience and good luck. You will definitely cope with everything.

If your going solo, a turret helps. You also want to raise your firepower core skill numbers at the expense of stamina/health. Balance doesn't help you. And have the marksman perk on your sniper-rifle and assault rifle. Headshots are key to quick kills. You can buy classified weapons at camp Clinton.
