Top classified set grind strategy: Need some
I typically play solo and sometimes with a friend who is kind enough to help me. I , got to tier 5 a while ago, have a decent weapon and mostly Nomad gear setup that makes doing the daily challenges (with a partner for the Challenging ones) and boss runs reasonably easy. I collected quite a few pieces of classified gear for other sets - mostly during the recent world event.

But... I have not obtained hardly any classified gear since the world event ended and after around 100h of gameplay I never found a single piece of classified Nomad or Striker gear.

I got my current gear upgraded so that I am level 286 and I certainly don't want to waste extremely rare resources upgrading any other non-classified sets.

Am I doing something wrong? Are there other activities (not DZ extractions as I'd be doing it solo) that I need to be doing? Or is it just hopeless and should I just give up on the game?

Hi agent,

Classifieds are very rare. Just keep on playing and you will eventually start getting them. My advice - start playing Legendary missions with veteran players (4000+ commendation). They will almost always share their good loot at the end of the mission, including classified gear. This is probably the best way to farm them, a part of the GE of course.

Good luck :)

PS. If you're on PlayStation we can play together.

Thank you. I do have a friend that I play with at times - on PC, he is high level, needs little of what he picks up and he indeed does share his good loot. But no, he is not at a level to carry me through Legendaries yet.

What puzzles me is that although I expect very few classified sets:

(1) I started playing just before the world event and I was at a perfect level to benefit from it. During that time I got quite a few classified set items. Far less since then. What changed is that I now play a lot more solo.

(2) This might be pure perception bias, but it seems to me that even doing the exact same tasks (dailies and boss runs) now
- When I play solo I see the fewest set drops.
- When I play with him and I do the kill I see more set drops than solo.
- When I play with him he sees more set drops than me.

This all makes me think that something about his character causes more set drops than mine. Maybe level, maybe attributes, maybe gear. That is why I made this thread, to try to find out what so that I can optimize things to increase the likelihood of set drops.

You can't optimise your build to increase the drop rate chance, there is no such mechanic anywhere in the game. The best way to build a full 6-piece classified will always be the GE, and they only happen once a month. Apart from that, yes - it's still possible, but it'll take a lot of time.

My advice is the following:

1. Play Legendary missions with others, not just your friend, and ask them to share any classified gear they get.
2. Buy Classified Caches at the Special Gear Vendor. They cost 2500 phoenix credits each.
3. Play Resistance. The Reward Crate has 57.1% for dropping a Classified.
4. Kill LZ and DZ named bosses - 6% chance for dropping a Classified.
5. Kill Hunters in the Underground - also 6%.
6. Field Proficiency Caches also have 6%.

I play both on PC and PS4. You can add me if you need help.

Open World bosses is the easiest way, and then doing them with multiple characters. A Classified piece only has like a 6% chance to drop, so they are not common. You can also get a classy in the proficiency crates at a rate of like 1 piece in 15-20 boxes(or thats about what my average is).

Legendaries are the hard way, but yeah, you can get some there to.

Fandragorn and Darklander are spot on. Feel free to add me.

The multiple character approach makes a lot of sense. plus it would let you earn more of those essential division credits.
