Warning about pre-load (Please read to prevent problems at launch)

Just a warning I try to give out on any game I pre-order: Preloads require DOUBLE the disk space listed on the store page.

In the case of The Division, this means that in order to pre-load and install the game you are going to need somewhere around 80 gigs free on your system before you start downloading the pre-load files.

The reason for this is that the pre-load is basically an encrypted installation disc that you are downloading. In order to decrypt the pre-load, steam basically decrypts the game files, then copies them to the actual game directory. This means that by the time the pre-load is completed you will have 2 full copies of the game installed on your system (1 encrypted in the pre-load files and 1 in the actual game directory). Once the game is fully decrypted and installed, the pre-load files will finally be deleted freeing up the extra 30-40 gigs of space that they were taking up.

If you do not have 40 gigs free when the game releases, the decryption process won't even start and you will be forced to either re-download the game (downloading after launch just downloads the regular files and doesn't require the extra space), clear 40 gigs from the drive you are trying to install on, or fight with steam to move the pre-load files to a different drive and try to get it to decrypt there.

Thats not 100% accurate mang... at the time of extraction you wont need 80 free, youll need 80 free before you start, 40 free at the point of extraction. Cuase the other 40 has laready been filled with the preload files.

Just clarifying so people dont think they need 80GB free in ADDITION to the preload files already DLed.

Also the fact its gonna take some time to decrypt, the forums are gonna be flooded with people who think they will be playing right at midnight... Screaming my game has been stuck at 100% for past 30min and blame ubisoft...

Hmm, even if it's requires double space, it will be 54 Gb, cause preload is 27 Gb, at least for me.

Than it will be 27 + 40 = 67 Gb, not 80

P.S. Or you mean it download 27Gb, than unpack to 40 GB, and finaly decrypt in another 40G? O_o

It's still better to plan for 80 than expect 67 and it winds up needing 70. That's why I always say to double the space that is listed on the game's store page. I have even heard on rare occasions that it actually slightly exceeds double the size, though I've never experienced that myself.
