Dark Zone for noobs? Help me understand it please?
I recently started playing this game and finding it rather difficult (I'm not a big FPS player). I'm level 17 and just starting to enter the Dark Zone (easiest zone of it) and I'm getting my♥♥♥♥♥handed to me within 10 seconds. All me equipment is leveled to me, but my DZ level is 2, and I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong.

I'm playing solo (I can never find a match no matter how long I wait) and it's insane that I can't make any progress at all. Is there something I don't know about the game that is making it so difficult to enter the DZ (or why it's so difficult in general)?

Part of it may just be my inability to be god at FPS games. As I mentioned, my gear is all proper level, and I've installed weapon mods, etc, but I still get destroyed by enemies 4 levels lower than I. This game is clearly *not* made for people who aren't good at shooters, so I'm thinking I may just quit as it's too damn difficult, which sucks as I enjoy the gameplay, I just can't fight well.

Well, the Dark Zone is intended to be a challenge.
Personally, i don't find it too hard, at least not against the normal and purple enemies. If some elite ones are involved it's a different thing.

But you're not necessarily doing something wrong, especially if you're solo-ing. It is definitely tough alone.
But it also depends on what perks and skills you take with you, how your equipment works out and how good of a player you are.

You could always try to find other playrs, or level up further and try again at a later stage.

At Level 30 with sufficient gear, i found it easier to fight against enemies in the DZ than earlier in the game.

I've been playing about 5 days straight and haven't found a single person via "matchmaking" even though I'm always trying. It sucks. Does no one play the game anymore?
First, you should not be attempting to enter the DZ BEFORE you get to level 30, world tear 5. You will not die almost immediately, especially solo. Although, after you obtain adequate gear and weapons, the DZ can be played solo.

Second. you should complete off of the main missions and side missions to complete the base of operations (Post Office). By doing so you will have reached level 30 and acquired some decent weapons and gear.

Third, you DO NOT have to go into the DZ to obtain the best weapons and gear.

Finally, take your time and enjoy the game. By doing so you will develop the necessary skills and talent for the end-game.

At lower levels it's probably harder to find someone, i guess.
Once you're max level, it might be easier to find someone.

You could also try to look for other players in the forum:

If you haven't alrady, i think it's also worth to do the main and side-missions, get to Level 30 and try out your skills etc to find a playstyle that suits you best.
You don't have to rush into the DZ.

For the next 5 days, most people will be playing the open beta for D2, but there are a lot of players out there for D1. Have you tried Discord?
A lot of new players (as I am) bought the game on Steam when the price was very low few weeks ago. So they are all (or mostly) at end-game, now.

But there's still a lot of players, enough to MM for missions in Expert/Legendary, all other content is doable solo.

But that's for end-game, as said above, so for lvl 30 and world tier 5. Untill this, you'll have to run the game by yourself, but (except for DZ, so...), it's definitely not a problem.

Besides, if you want to explore DZ solo without doing PvP, it's OK : it's just what I do, for weekly tasks etc.
The tip is to avoid looting anything : just kill your mobs, grind your xp, get your rewards... As I don't loot anything, I don"t have to extract, and I don't have the "yellow bag" on my back, so every player can see I have nothing to offer when i'm killed ^^
Since i'm playing so, I've never been shot down on DZ : players simply ignore me, because i'm far too insignificant for them >_<
It has nothing to do with being good at shooters, enemies are bullet sponges and there is no fast peek system like in r6 siege. You're getting your ass handed to you because npcs kill you in 3-4 shots while you have to dump mags after mags to kill 1 guy. This isn't a shooter, this is an rpg
OK, but I excel at RPGs as they are the type of games I prefer. But as I suck at twitchy action games (like this one), and you can't proceed at the game without being good at twitchy action games, I should probably just give up then. This is *not* an RPG. It may have RPG elements, but it is *not* an RPG.
I'm relatively new in Division as well. Started going to Dark Zone at lvl 22-23 solo & fared quite okay that time. Yes, it wasn't butterly smooth but I didn't have solid gear as well. Also, attributes like 'x% damage to elites, armor damage' helps a lot.
I'm lvl 29 right now & kinda exploring dark zones only at the moment. Give me a add if you want to dark zone together.

It's obviously not a RPG.
More like a kind of "Hack'n'Slash" in open-worlds, or a "shooter-looter".

The only thing to understand is that enemies are usually in small groups with various skills and weaknesses, and always outnumber you.
So you HAVE to protect yourself, using the cover gameplay. Progress carefully, always spot your enemies before starting the fight, etc.

Pay attention to the level of your enemies and missions : try to do missions with 1 or 2 lvl less than you. Missions of the same level are usually quite hard to do...

The gear & weapons is not the problem, while leveling, because your stuff change regularly, so you just have to equip what seems to be better.
Prefer Assault Rifles, they are good versatile choice. Use mods on your weapons and your gear. Try different skills and talents...

There's no need to /ragequit because you feel struggling : just relax, the gameplay need time, as usual, nothing abnormal here.

the only reason to go to DZ before level 30 is to pvp
Which region are you mate?I am from Asian region and I find players in the server. Mostly people won't join but will help in defeating the enemies. Use underground tunnels and contaminated zones to farm things. Stay in DZ1 and go higher as your level increases. The loot you get from DZ will always last a level higher. And take turret, use grenades and try to extract when some players are extracting. You can see the extraction zone flickering while extraction is active.i usually soloed from level 10 into DZ. And I did the above steps. Start a fight with a grenade.

i bought this game when the price really cheap at 2-3 weeks ago and yea this game is difficult the first time u played it especially DZ. my advice just play the game and give it time to understand all of the basic and mechanic later u will get used to it.

well im solo player myself, when im at lv 15-19 i entered the DZ for first time but i still can survive it idk why and there many good player that sometimes invite me to get through the DZ together at that time. i think u cant find a match now maybe bcuz there are many active player trying division 2 or just lv up to 30 without touching the DZ for now. and after lv 30 i think u can handle the enemy easily

I used to sit in matchmaking too and no one joined. Your best option is wait at a safe house and invited people around your level when they appear to join you. 90% will most likely team up with you and do missions and dark zone with you, as they want to do the same.

I'll add you. I'm level 23
you can add me too, we'll play missions and dark zone together. Tho i only have it on uplay so u have to add me on there (User name is Cheungyboyy)
