** FIXED **Crashing while changing window mode
My issue is very similar to this guys --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9n_Ufi5yb8

Ive done almost every suggested solution I could find.
-Disable Uplay overlay - Does nothing for me
-Alt enter - Causes a crash
-Reinstall - Did Nothing
-Verified game files - Did Nothing
-Steam startup command - Immediate crash on startup

I have no had this issue before. Infact it started about a day ago when I purchsed all the DLC and installed. I CAN still play the game, but Id PREFER to play in windowed fullscreeen.

Note: I can change the resolution of the windowed mode to whatever but anything else inside the video tab causes as crash after attempting to apply new settings.

**Update**

I didn't attempt to do anything with the Geforce Experience Optimization settings BUT I just did, and the game DID START in fullscreen 1920x1080 resolution. It crashed after attempting to load, BUT I did tab out to check on something else.

I tried again, no tabbing this time and in 1600x900 resolution, but the game forced itself back to windowed mode....interesting...

do you have the DX 12 render option turned on ingame?? otherwise turn it off, that help me fix my crashing, similar issue to yours, random crashing, going to window mode caused it to crash, going to full screen...

ChiGoku is right, at least in my case, disabled the DirectX 12 Renderer and going back and forth from windowed to fullscreen works great again.

I did do the DX12 render, but it also crashed.

BUT I have found a fix to my issue. All of my issues started roughy after I downloaded the DLC. I unchecked everything except the uplay key, and started up the game. It started up in Fullscreen, and I was able to change evereything back to where I had it.

I checked all my DLC's again, and the issue has not came up again. No crashes, nothing.

Something may have went down somewhere when the DLC's were downloaded the first time around.

As of April 22, 2018, at least, this seems to be fixed. I don't believe it was a couple weeks ago.
U gotta turn dx12 off in window mode 1st and make sure it saves and make sure it hasn't switched back otherwise it will keep crashing

This worked for me

Just reporting in from 2021 to say that this is still and issue and this is the one thing that actually helped. Dunno how they screwed up DX12 so bad, but don't turn it on even if it seems like a no-brainer in post-2020 games

I tried EVERYTHING listed here, on videos, and others and did not work.

Issue keep happening and TD keeps carshing.

I want to revisit the game after changing hardware... (3060ti, 144hz screen... among other goodies)

I CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION that worked for me

I looked for the *.cfg in my documents\my games\Tom Clancysblablablathe division

and deleted them all....

That forced the game to load CLEAN, Full Screen Etc....

Worked Like A Charm. :Survivalist:

Hiya xXULTRAXx, sorry to ehar you're having this issue. Can you please follow these steps ?

Disable the overlay:
- Steam: right click on game, properties, uncheck enable Steam overlay.
- Uplay: right click Uplay tray icon (near clock), settings (hamburger nav button in top left), uncheck enable overlay in supported games.

- If the problem remains, go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Tom Clancy's The Division\ and delete everything except user.bindings.
- Restart/start the game and fix your graphics settings if needed

This should help resolve your situation.
