How to deal with armored cleaners?
As the title suggest, how do you deal effectively with the elite/armored cleaners?

I;m level 9 so far and I'm using a fully modded, level 9 blue AR for the extra damage vs armor. I pick some cover some distance away, set up my turret and open fire on them using burst fire and aiming for the head for maximum damage. They just bum rush my position eating all my bullets to the face and them proceed to roast me alive.

I can't really resposition because as soon as I leave cover I'm a bullet riddled corpse. What's the trick to dealing with these enemies? I try to play tactical and strategic and they beat me through their sheer massive health bar and overwhelming firepower. The enemies are same level as me, level 9.

Set off their tanks/grenade pouches. For the snipers/rushers shot them in the head a lot.

If you mean the giant cleaners with the tanks strapped to the sides? Try shooting those tanks instead ;-)

Use everything you have at your disposal, flash grenades, stun grenades, etc.

Cleaners are one of my favorite types of enemies to face because they have glaring weakpoints that make for fun target practice (and humorously fun effects).

Soldier - Hit the tank on their back enough and they'll proceed to detonate. Unless you're dealing with ELITES, everyone else is gonna panic and run away from them and they are gonna flail and explode, anyone nearby gets hurt too.

Charger - These are the more annoying ones. But like said, hit em in the head, it'll stagger them for more open shots, but get them down fast. They're not that physically tough.

Grenadiers - Shoot for the grenade bag on their left hip. Specifically the red one, the other one won't blow up. Instead of detonating like soldiers, they go up in a huge cloud of flame that will ignite everyone else around them with no time to get away from it. Great way to slow folks down and set up for headshots.

Engineers - Headshots, they don't have much of a weakpoint, but they don't have the means to go toe to toe very well. Keep cover, keep shooting down their turret, and you'll take them down.

Snipers - Like most snipers in the game, they're weak in the health department, just have something to peg em in the head with a few shots.

Captains - These guys are NIGHTMARES until you realize they're wearing ALL the weakpoints of their underlings. The tank on his left will ignite and detonate like a Soldier, there's a tank behind his head that does the same. Lastly, there's a pack of explosives on his right leg for instant explosion. Popping at least TWO of these will kill the Captain outright.

As a hint, kill all medics as soon as possible, they turn into pains in the ass when you get to 30, so getting used to picking them off and the rushers/chargers is a must.

Hint: to kill a medic, jsut damage his support station, don't destroy it, then when he runs over to repair it, shoot the back of his FREAKING STUPID MEDIC HEAD OFF WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE.

only slight issue with them, slight issue, nothing big....

These have all been very good pointers. I thought headshots were the main go-to spot for all the baddies. I'll try exploding them more often. Though sometimes I land a shot on the fuel tank/grenade bag and it doesn't ignite, is it random chance or does the tank have a healthbar/damage threshhold before it will explode?

I'm guessing you mean the yellow elite ones or the purple ones, they're supposed to be challenging until you get stronger hehe..but yeah hit the weakspots.

Play Survival, the elite cleaners are freakin scary lol.

Shoot tanks, is not exactly random, tanks (or any weak point) may explode when taking certain damage. It pays off much more than damaging the enemy itself (even if aiming at head)
