What kind of gear do you enter dark zone with? Blue or purple?
Do you make sure to craft skills?
Survival requires some good map awareness, although some simply rush to the border of the dark zone and loot all the chests/bags there for the better loot.
Once inside the darkzone, you need to find Division Tech, so you can make a flare gun and some high-end weapons, otherwise the Hunter will be a pain during extraction.
You will always get 1 division tech from your Anti-Viral chest, that becomes your objective in the Dark Zone. (Although not required to extract).
But be warned, that chest might be located in a extremely dangerous place, and without high-end weapons and gear, it could be suicidal to go for it.
While some spawn locations might be better than others, there is plenty of loot around.
I've had both good and bad spawns, where I spent 20 mins running around in panic, barely finding anything... but then in matter of few minutes, I got completely decked out.
There is plenty of loot... Ground floor, rooftops, subway, sewer. Plenty of places to go for stuff. Just make sure to scout for enemies... Running into a big boy cleaner in a tight sewer tunnel is not fun... thank god they cant climb ladders.
Do what others mentioned above, go close to the DZ and farm sewers, rooftops and buildings for loot, do this until you can go into the DZ with at least some purple gear.
STAY STEALTHY! Until you learn the maps better, and just get better overall at reacting to situations, you should never fight enemies! Don't even mess with the redbars until you get 2-4 runs under your belt. If you get confronted RUN!
(Enemies will lose you in the storm, you can literally run behind a car, move to the flank and they will still be shooting at your former position, USE THIS once you get confident enough to engage enemies)
Once you do it a few times you will want to start getting ballsy and running for the crash site and landmarks, never go at landmarks without a sniper rifle or you're history if you're solo. Even duo it gets nasty fast and you can quickly find yourselves pinned down. Just slip in and out of areas and gather.
The magnifying glass is the location of the Anti-viral. As mentioned before, you dont HAVE to get it, but if you cant find division tech elsewhere, the Anti-Viral always gives you 1 to craft the flare gun with.
And the Anti-Viral itself, just adds to your final score.
Keep an eye out for ambulances and shelters. Usually find a bag or 2 with medicine.
So if you get anti-viral you stop being sick?
No. I belive the opening cutscene for Survival explains what exactly the Anti-viral is.
But! We made it with random budy in DZ and i felt we had similar skills.
When i made to DZ i were already half purple. Don't remember that weapons name trahtrahtahtadaahbahtrababah.. long shooting one and long reload :D That was so cool weapon. Good against any type of enemies! :)
And.. And i... got about 6x caches? Yes 5 or 6. :D
Next step, is try to kill as many named elites in dark zone for survival caches. :D
They give 4 items each.
And as Stryker mentioned, the G36 really is a superb weapon inthere. Together with the custom M44, it wrecks trash and veteran NPC's and does quite well against elites.
