High-End Vs. Gear Set
So I have recently hit World Tier 5 and am obviously trying to get a better gear loadout, and my questiom is this; Whats better? High-End Gear, or a Gear Set?

I tend to play a fare bit of solo, but also enjoy looting (not so much PVPing) in the Dark Zone, So I was think about trying to get a set of Nomad gear for its ability, but do you guys think it would be better to just get High End and tailor it to my playstyle?

I notice most of the Gear Sets seem designed for specific playstyles, and I Personaly like a nice balance between Firearms and Stamina, which seems (In my limited experience) hard to get with the Gear Sets...

Your thoughts?

The current meta is 4 of a set and 2 HE. There is a pretty good full HE build, but it requires ultra rare named equipment that is near impossible to obtain. Otherwise, most HE parts aren't worth wearing.

It seems you can get better base stats with high end.

But as you say, gear sets have specific bonuses for specific playstyles. Eg. Banshee is nice for a solo DZ farmer.

I think there's little (if anything) in the game which requires the slight stat advantage that a full high end set gives.

You could use the Recalibration Station to Get a balance between Firearms and Stamina.

Thanks for the opinions guys!

I've had a HE (256) chest piece that is better than any set item for sure. Only piece I've gotten even close is a Alpha piece, but still not good enough.

This.
I use the recalibration table like an addiction. Going for the perfect roll on everything.

I have a four piece Alpha Bridge set to get all six talents bundled onto my primary assault rifle.
Then two HE pieces. One with a perfect 1272 on firearms and the other with it on stamina.

Keep spares of everything.
I was trying for a perfect roll on stamina for my knee pads but a perfect roll for firearms came up instead.
So I took the firearms and then equipped a new mask and started gambling away on it for the perfect roll on stamina....don't pass up a perfect roll. Even if you were trying for something else.

Not a problem. I'm still learning quite a bit myself.

I'm new to the Underground so please don't make fun of how lost I am...

But you can see here that I can take a bunch of damage while dealing out a lot of damage.
Like I said...find a balance and don't focus on one number. It's too hard to get all three high.
I sacrifice electronics for fire power and toughness.

Sorry to bust your bubble guys but HE and set items have the same min and max on stats and attributes, you were just unlucky with set items.

Some HE have talents too good to be ignored (i.e. barret's chest and savage gloves) so I like having a 4 set piece with 2 HE. Best combination you can get.

You can do a little of both.

I now have four pieces of Alpha Bridge and all six talents active.
I also have close to 6000 firearms,7000 stamina and 2727 electronics.

367,000 DPS
333,350 Toughness Plus Predatory and several health on kill/crit modifiers.
85,000 Skill

5511 Firearms
6418 Stamina
2727 Electronics.

Not high numbers but a good balance for PvE

Spec Ops kneepads heavy on firearms...max roll
Spec Ops mask heavy on stamina...max roll
Alpha bridge everything else. Everything rolled as high as possible...everything I am allowed anyway.

It's actually not at all, stats on both sets and HE can be 100% identical. Min/max is the same on both HE and set items for attributes and stats. It's just a matter of finding the right gear.

To add my 2 cents.
When I first started in tier 5, I was mixing set gear and HE but eventually the set gear were always just better.
For example, on my alt I have a FAMAS and use a 4 striker 2 sentry build because it improves the handling so much. I also carry 2 extra sentry for when I know I'll be using my MM rifle.
On my main I'm using a DE set with Ferro's mask. I was using HE kneepads, but some DE ones dropped that were just so much better that I couldn't not use them.
I guess the optimal build is 4 set with either 2 named HE (Ferro's and Barret's seem best) or 2 from another set that helps improve the 4 set.
Of course YMMV.

Your video seemed fine to me. And yes you pretty much still have to keep electronics lower in favour of the other two. The way the game seems to work even if you group up a pure electronics build just isn't as viable. Might be something they eventually fix, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

With that in mind I don't even bother chasing high electronic talents on my weapons. Just reroll if it's one or vendor/break down if ir's two. Drop rates are good enough that your God roll will drop eventually. I've had my best luck with Toughness being the highest, Firearms maybe 1K behind it and electronics a distant third.

You play almost the exact same way as me and like you I just hit Tier 5 today. And like a lot of people here have stated I'v been runnin 4 pieces of a gear set (in my case Alpha Bridge because I keep getting them) and 2 HE pieces. I use LMG's with Alph Bridge and I was thinking of adding 2 pieces from a set (don't know the name) that adds 20% to stability if you have 2 pieces. Seems like it would make a lethal combo with AB and LMG's.
