yes there is a tutorial, no you don't need to code. Experience with Linux/Unix terminals would make it easier/potentially more enjoyable but its not required.

I have absolutely no experience writing code. The game is interesting in that it keeps most of the commands simple. Also the help command is my friend :D Have fun!
