Create a .txt File?
May have missed the leasson during the Tutorial, however i can not work out how to create a Txt file for personal notes.I wish to keep the standard note to be basic Game Information and create a seperate Txt files and notes for myself.

So far the only workl around i can tell is to create a copy (Backup) of the standard Note.txt Modify it to my own personal message info, rename to recognise as my own created file. Rename backup copy to the standard Note named file.

There has to be a better way at creating Txt files.
Any help would be great!

cat is only a file reading rather than editing tool, so I don't think there is a way to edit your own separate .txt notes

Only way I can think of is the way you stated, or by taking parts of a txt file and replacing it with what you want.

Technically you would probably be able to make extensive use of the replace command and just make sure that you have some sort of place marker symbol at the end of each point you want in the note. Then when you need to add another use that marker as the first string in the replace command and enter your new note which should append it to the end of your previous point.

Convoluted and I would also much prefer if there was some way to create and edit your own .txt files (I too would like to leave little personal calling cards on servers to taunt other hackers *cough* Naix you little ***** *cough*) but still technically possible with the tools you have I'm sure!
For personal notes, use the unlisted command/tool <addNote "your note here"> this creates a note in your memory task bar with the info entered.

THANK YOU! I tried 'note' as a command which obviously didn't work and I just gave up there, I don't know why 'addNote' didn't click.

I noticed that when using the Note UI the notes all get placed in a Note.txt file in your home folder. Using the addNote command, does it just append your new note to that same file, or does it create a new file within your home folder? If its a new file, then my convoluted way of creating personal files just got a bit easier!

You know I'm actually not too sure. I have only used it for simple jotting of IPs to email the boss. Definitely worth exploring.

You guys clearly don't own a cat or have kids. Or at least Titch doesn't.

type
addnote "enter random text here"
then go to your home folder,
mv Notes.txt MyNewTxtFiles.txt

voila you get your new .txt file

Not kids, I do have a cat though. Mind you he acts more as a firewall for my notes... I have to bypass him in order to even get to my paper. He always likes to nap on my notebooks =/

This is excatly why i asked in the first place Pen and Paper (good for mental notes to read out of game) But this above quote is the reason for the original post to engage in cyber warfare with notes to others little remarks which may or may not lead into an event.

And my end msg to you all Stay safe keep an eye out of Tracers and DONT GET CAUGHT!

So basically what I am going to be doing is adding a single note in the ui that just has a * in it. This would leave a Note.txt file in the home directory whose only contents are *.

Then I will make a copy of that file and whenever I feel like leaving a calling card, copy it to the server then replace the * with my message.

Boom.
