CANNOT REVENGE NAIX
I've always got rid of my logs instantly... now I have no way to finding Naix 2nd proxy. I didn't get my replacement .sys from him as there are so many alternatives. Is this now a game stopping issue and do I need to restart from scratch? I have no log or way of restoring my logs to find his proxy ip.

The game is great but by having the ability for different ways to restore your own OS surely there should also be a way around this too.

sorry, you needed the logs for an IP address.

so you'll need to restart

You need the IP from your logs to get an achievment; it is not in any way required to complete the game.

he's missing his x-server.sys file so he has NO Graphic User Interface and needs an IP to get a x-server.sys.

No I'm not missing my x-server.sys but I did obtain one from an alternative location. I did however rm * all my logs as habit so I have no IP to get to NAIX for the revenge hack. Shame how it gives the opportunity to make a choice at one point..... to have none or way of restoring your logs at another.

No, you broke your game, you need that IP address to progress.
as you'll need that IP to finish the "Punishment" mission

You couldn't be more wrong - go replay the tutorial. The very first thing you ever do in the game is using "scan" to display the IP address of that easily hackable server connected to your own PC. Guess which file can be found on literally every server? The x-server.sys file.

Seriously, please disregard everything Azure Zero says - just look at his achievments to see that he hasn't beaten the game and couldn't possibly know what he is talking about.

This is a mild spoiler: After beating the game, you get access to a credits server, which points out the existence of a "hidden path" in the game. That "hidden path" is tracing the IP address of the guy who hacked you.
The game fully expects you to either not notice the IP, or to not follow it up, the first time you play the game.

Getting revenge on Naix is by no means a "game breaker" as one claimed... That's just blasphemy. I basically went on his path not knowing that it was actually the secret path the game was talking about when I beat it the first time.

However, if you did delete your logs right after getting your x-server.sys back and not note the IP down, then yes, you are SOL about getting your revenge, and must restart the game. This isn't quite like Uplink that if you used a low level Log Deleter, you could just undelete them. Oh no, not in this case. You remove a file, it is permanently gone in that current save file.

Ah well.. Start again then... bit poor IMO when they give you a choice of a non-linear path at one point..... then force you to adhere to a path at the next.

Not really hacking is it.

Ok started again. Didn't take long to revenge NAIX so now I got invited to CSEC. Pretty sweet so far.

In a way, I can understand the design choice. I'm not sure if the developers might look into changing that, but I honestly like the way it is now. Other than the occasional bug, but once Project Junebug got fixed, I can actually play this without using the "cheat server" in the game.

I still prefer Uplink with how it handles the story, among other things you can do in the game. But I also like Hacknet for what it is, and definitely would like to see what people come up with for mods. Maybe make a few myself if I can work up some magic.

Was there a mission for this? I never got one... After I bombed him out of my system I thought hmm...I bet his IP is logged. So i traced him back to his own computer and rekd it. Haven't heard a peep from him since.

Hi TwinShadow. I agree Uplink has always been my goto game... loved it since release. The only thing I have a problem with is every time I fancy a new game on it I have to rebuy all the processors/RAM everything.

I have a sweet custom terminal I designed myself for it.. which I love using.

^ - I know the feeling... One mission I tried to do involved deleting files off a LAN and framing someone for it.. Those are HARD to pull off in one go. And my gateway is a modded one, so that's even more crap to buy than the default one. And because of my multiple attempts, my motion tracker was going off and I had to nuke the gateway. Sad day.

From the looks of things, if you bomb him out before you get the dreaded BSOD in the game, I believe it cancels out him sending a message after you wreck his own server. Thus, you're forced onto finishing Entropy, and then going to CSEC at that point.

Guess some of us are just more pro than the devs expected ha.
