Is this game especially accurate?
I'm interested in getting an IT/Cyber security degree, i was curious if this game was accurate enough to serve as a proper learning tool

I wouldn't try to learn off of this, it's accurate enough for an enjoyable "hacking" experience, but isn't really like actual hacking (or even terminal usage, commands are "similar" to what they are irl, but with a few differences)

Still fun as a game though

Do you know any good games i could use for learning?

You might be interested in this Hacknet review written by a Unix developer: https://www.brokenjoysticks.net/2016/01/18/hacknet-the-unix-developers-review/

Hacknet is essentially "Hollywood Hacking: The Video Game". While the underlying systems are based on real-world equivalents, most of the hacking is simplified down to running the correct executable to magically unlock servers. You'll learn about common TCP/UDP ports for protocols, IP addresses, some basic UNIX commands, and why private information should always be stored in an encrypted format, but you won't learn how to break into insecure servers overnight. That said, since you're considering a degree in IT/Cyber Security, you'll be introduced to concepts, protocols and terminology which might turn up on your course. Plus, you're more likely to enjoy and appreciate the Hacknet experience if you're familiar with Infosec.

I wouldn't go about learning to hack through games as pretty much all of them are no where near to the real thing.

perhaps the “useful” things you expected to learn are basic linux/Mac os command line:lunar2019deadpanpig:

You might try:

for fun. I have not tried these extensively but certainly, I believe, more in tune to what you maybe interested in...

id say still get this game, it will at least build some foundation into the basics e.g console command interfacing (navigating through DOS directory), understanding character types (UTF,ASCII) , exposure to virus and malwares, roughly the gist of how they are delivered, points of attack, know about software extensions like .exe .jpg .png. Dude Knowledge is everywhere is the wise that grind and pick up the patterns and synthesize them into new ideas. I say get it.

slowly build familiarisation of IP address, internet web address formats. http https protocols. read through personal files and learn some actual bits of internet history in it

Actually i learned basic Linux commands off of this and when i was on a school PC, decided to browse through the console just for fun, and found a little easter egg on an actual computer, i dont remember how it was actually called (cant check as i have Windows at home) but something along the lines "Brainwave detector" you opened it and it said scanning for brainwaves and than it said "no brain activity detected"
It was such a hacknet moment for me :D

well it teaches some of the stuff they might not emphasize in security courses. i took a beginner-level IT security course and it absolutely sucked. so yeah, this game is worth the $10, but if you're new to the command line you might wanna start there. also, get an irc client.
