You are not a real hacker in this game, more like a script kiddie.
The reviews should tell you all you need to know, it's very much story based and (mostly) linear, so not really a sandbox kinda hack (i.e. Uplink or hackmud). That doesn't mean you can't play around with the servers you hack into though. If you're on the fence I think you would enjoy it, plus some new content (including multiplayer missions) should be coming soon-ish, which is making currrent fans anxious here.
