If you want a small taste you can try the Hacker Wars Workshop which adds a extension to the game. This tries to create a virtual multiplayer competition, first solo then with a team. Even has a forum where they talk about you https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=937939681

I wouldn't hold my breath. Personally, I've come to accept that it probably won't happen, as there's been complete silence regarding it for so long. If it happens to be added in an update sometime down the line, it'd be a nice surprise though, can always dream.

The developer has said that he is working on it and the origional version of hacknet was completely multiplayer and there is a way to get multiplayer as multiplayer is in the gamefiles as part of the origional game. The developer has stated that he is experimenting with different game modes to see what is fun but the multiplayer framework is already there and people have had multiplayer battels in this game, we were told that workshop wouold come out then multiplayer by the developer and is part of the planned features so it not if its when...btw there is a thread that showed how to access multiplayer, but it has been barried so if you look back into the discussions history you can probibly find it.

what do you mean its a game...no real hacking involved and real hacking is legal as long as it isnt against the will of the other party...their are dozens of websights including a vpn setup im working on with virtual machines that are designed to be hacked for fun
