Kona
day and night
personally i think it would have been better to do a full day and night cycle in kona. every part of the game including the boss "fight" could have been playable in either the day or night.

the sudden shift from full day to full night was abit jarring and immersion breaking.

The game is story-focused, so we decided to go for scripted day/night instead. Doing the last part of the game wouldn't feel the same at all during the day. Thank you for the feedback though, it may help us for future games to try and figure out ways to make it possible :)

I do not agree. That change was very good, because atmosphere changed, everything was a bit scarier.

Wait... So because I went into the ice cave really early in my playthrough I now have to play the rest of the game in the dark? I've only visited 4 houses and explored a small part of the map.... If this is true then this is really terrible game design in my opinion. I shouldn't have been able to trigger the darkness so early on...

The night time is triggered when you have witnessed the 4 visions surrounding the death of 4 Manastan villagers. The villagers are Gilles Lachance, Gisèle Lachance, Réjean Blouin, Jean-Guy Lamothe.

Okay, I don't bother to read up on forum guidelines before posting a question so I didn't know about that, thank you for the reply though. I still think it is a little stupid that you can trigger the darkness by only exploring the area around the general store and the houses along the first road you get sent down. I was really getting into the game and enjoying it but I don't feel like exploring the other 3/4 of the map in total darkness so I doubt I'll ever finish the game now. I'm the type of person who takes his time and explores everything so I spent a good 4 or 5 hours only exploring that 1/4 of the map and now starting over just seems like such a chore :(

Please consider having a different trigger in the future, one that can't be triggered with 1/4 of the map explored....

yea this is what i didnt like about it, it turned pitch black just from exploring. I went into a cave it was daylight... came out 5 minutes later and it was pitch black

Thank you for the suggestion! I can't confirm that we will change this, but I'll add it to our list. We figured it would be pretty rare for people to find all 4 people so quickly. Guess we were wrong :P

Unfortunately the same thing happened to me...
about 25% discovered on map and - darkness.
Maybe it would be better if the visions would be spread better. or one could sleep somewhere till morning and then go back to the cave for going towards the end.

Agreed. The dark is really annoying :/

I really enjoyed the game, until I found out the darkness bug described above. Same for me, after going north from the general store it's only dark. This ruined the experience after a fantastic start of the game.

I know this is old thread but I wanted to add my voice to you all. I played the game and did some exploration but could have explored more. However, I followed some tracks that, well, led me to the actions that made the night happen... to learn that this night will be there til the end of game while I'm not even 30% done with exploration is really frustrating.. I don't feel like exploring the whole map in the complete darkness while I could have explored tons more before it.. if only I knew that before, I would have skipped some part of the actions and waited to be done with most exploration.. I so much don't feel like continuing to play.. it's either I have to start over or just stop playing... and I so much don't feel like starting over... meh....

SPOILERS
Well unfortunately that goes back to design. Most people will explore the closest things first, in this case the 'bottom' of the map. The Lechances, the mechanic and the separatist are all found there, never mind 'caves' are just BEGging for players to explore them, especially given the tacks on the map in....(well i forget who's house it was in) virtually TELL you to go look.

At any rate I'm enjoying the game, and being a completionist spent a good deal of time exploring following wolf tracks and only entered the ice cave when I was satisfied I'd completed everything I could before heading north (save dynamiting the cave near the Lechances). I would have explored the ice cave earlier though, had I not run out of ammunition for the handgun, or known how easy it was to take a wolf out with an axe. So in my case, being a pu$$y accidentally let/made your day/night trigger work properly. THUSly, I think it would have been better utilised AFTER the four ppl vision. So sayeth the reamed.

I am not sure if in 2021 there was an option to load a certain checkpoint, but after learning in this thread that the night will be till the end of the game - I went into options and clicked load checkpoint not hoping for much.. BUT there were tons of checkpoints saved!! So I loaded the first one in the cave (fire), and left the cave to continue discovery in daylight. Hope it helps for future readers! :)
