Questions about ending and Carl CAUTION MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
Ok, I have a couple questions about the ending and about some of the future games that are going to be put out since I know that this game is the first of four.

What did those guys in the boat at the end mean when they said, "Look a man alive!!"?

Did they know about the Wendigo or the circumstances concerning it?

Also, why were they looking for people?

And why were they surprised to see Carl? Had no one else made it out?

I understand you might not have the answers but I thought I might as well ask.

Also, do the next three games have to do with the Wendigo or is it something else? It seems kind of anti-climatic to just leave it at that.

Also, who are all the people in the cemetary? Are they the people that tried to escape?

Finally, what is in the collapsed cave since I never went there?

I know it's a lot of questions but I was just curious. I look forward to the other three games in this series that are going to come out. Do you know when the next one will come out on Early Access?

Thanks

my 2 cents:

  1. It looks to be a "to be continued" thread or hint.
  2. They do not know.
  3. To be explained in the future. It may be that some people did escape and they are trying to investigate their claims of strange occurances? only there is no one alive that can corroborate it.
  4. He is apparently the first person to make it out alive after the initial exodus from the area. If you tried to go out the way you came in, that passage is blocked. Evidently, no one has been able to get in that way either.
  5. What happened to the Hunter? The Wendigo had the Hunter's crossbolt in it's chest until Carl removed it. Think about it, besides Carl, we have the Wendigo and the Hunter still lurking about.
  6. They are just the people buried in the cemetary.
    • a) Carl mentions that for such religious people, he thinks it strange that he has seen no Chapel or Church in the area.
    • b) it is possible that the Wendigo chases Carl through the vicinity of the Chapel?
  7. The collapsed cave? I need to play through the game again to see what that is about, apparently you can clear the opening.

The other three games may or may not continue the Kona story, but given the "loose ends" it is quite possible that at least one will.

I have only unlocked 18 out of 35 achievements (one hidden), so I will have to go through the game again to see what I missed.

We only found 4 (I think) people frozen, the Old Man, Hamilton dead (maybe others that I missed). If I think about all the houses I visited, some of them had families with children. In other words, a bunch of people. I'd say it's a good guess that some people make it out alive. I hope we can see some of them in the future games and relate them to their houses.

Also, does anyone know where the flare gun is? I looked over the entire map and I never found it.
Do the talismans actually help you with the Wendigo? I never found any but I was just wondering.
How do you get the two hidden achievments?

I'd like to know all of that too. One thing I can say is that in the "Guides" page, there is one that shows where to find the talismans.

How do you get the two hidden achievments?
Flare gun: Last chest of the treasure hunt, which starts in the mailbox of the Bedards' house
Talisman: They add small bonuses to your stats, so you can survive a bit longer if you get hit.
Hidden achievements: There are more than 2, what are the achievements you have unlocked so far?

What did those guys in the boat at the end mean when they said, "Look a man alive!!"?

ANSWER: They meant that they found a man alive (you), which means they know something is going on in the region.

Did they know about the Wendigo or the circumstances concerning it?

ANSWER: It is unknown if they knew about the Wendigo itself, but they do know something weird is going on.

Also, why were they looking for people?

ANSWER: Because they saw weird events happening, but they weren't trapped, they figured they may try to find people who may have survived.

And why were they surprised to see Carl? Had no one else made it out?

ANSWER: They were surprised because he is the first person they've seen escape.

I understand you might not have the answers but I thought I might as well ask.

Also, do the next three games have to do with the Wendigo or is it something else? It seems kind of anti-climatic to just leave it at that.

ANSWER: The Wendigo is alive, so it's probably not the last time we'll see it. Can't tell more info for now :P

Also, who are all the people in the cemetary? Are they the people that tried to escape?

ANSWER: People who tried to escape, but didn't make it.

Finally, what is in the collapsed cave since I never went there?

ANSWER: Are you referring to the cave behind the Lachances' house? If so, there is nothing story-related, although there is an achievement for opening the path.

I know it's a lot of questions but I was just curious. I look forward to the other three games in this series that are going to come out. Do you know when the next one will come out on Early Access?

ANSWER: We don't have any timeline set at the moment. Many things depend on the success of Kona, so it's hard to tell for now.

Thanks
Added the answers in bold directly in the quote above :)

Cool! Thanks for the answers. As to the achievments, I have unlocked the Spaceship, SOS, Pink Lungs (I made sure I didn't smoke the entire game so I would get that) and Bulletproof. Those are I think the main ones that you wouldn't get nomarlly by following the story line. I'm going to go for the one where you open the path at the Lanchance's house. I know that there is a hidden achievement call Carl: Private Investigator which I'm guessing means that I will have to fill out the journal completely. I'm not sure what the Sorry, Eh? achievment is though. I have been trying to figure that out for a while.

I am playing through it again, ... Thank You Jean-Francois Fiset for answering Mitch's questions, ... I was just guessing about the people in the Cemetary and of course, I got it wrong. :p

Hopefully things go well enough for additional stories. From the responses in the community forums, it looks good. Reviews look to be on the postive side.

I had gotten quite a few of the hidden achievements, except Pink Lungs, but this time through, I have refrained from smoking and use the steak (I really thought you could cook and eat it the first time through), ... are there "alternate endings"? besides dying, I mean.

You got many answers right though :)

The Sorry, Eh? achievement: after opening the gate at the beginning, you can interact with the rock on the counter of the little shed.
Carl: Private Investigator: This is unlocked when you find all evidence about Hamilton's murder. Some of them are secondary (which means you can complete the game without them). If you try to complete the journal, you should unlock it eventually.

WARNING FOR THE "PROHIBITION" ACHIEVEMENT: There is a bug right now that will prevent you from unlocking it if you drink water. Since you already have unlocked the Pink Lungs achievements, if you want to reduce Carl's stress, smoke cigarettes and/or take pain killers.

Hope it helps ;)

Just finished the game last night and overall i really enjoyed it so well done :) I bought it ages ago in early access but decided not to play it at all as i think story driven games are probably best left until its a full release, so im glad i waited. It had great atmosphere and i loved the story and learning about all the inhabitants in the town. My biggest gripe was the last part of the game after the ice wall. It didnt feel right and it was easily the low point of the game. I feel the ending was too abrupt as well but hey, can't love everything. Still, it was a pretty unique hybrid of a game and its why i love trying out smaller indie type developer games. I hope you guys do well with this game and make another, cause i will surely buy it :)

Thanks for the "Sorry, eh?" achievement. I got it right at the beginning. It was like the devs read my mind...or I read theirs. Eitherway, thanks.
