Report a translation problem
Begin with a wheel with an "L" shape in the middle. As soon as you find the 2 wires that connect to other wheels, you know that positive/negative settings are correctly placed. The rest should go well after that.

It's in the garage on a shelf
It just makes people pointlessly search the keys forever. And only find that "solution" by googling it up. And when i have to google something in an explory game, something has been done wrong.
There are several other moments in the game, where a tiny bit more comfort would make it better. Not talking exlamation mark or big marker on the map, just maybe a little hint or suggestion made by carl.
If you read the snowmobile manual carefully you could found a hint where you should looked for the key.
Including the wiring puzzle in the Secret Project, this game seems to have increased artificial difficulty, which tends to be a very frustrating game mechanic for some people.
