Wich Starfleet Command is worth my time?

I hesitate a lot between Orion Pirates and SFC 3. I heard Orion Pirates is the best one since SFC 3 has been dumbed down. Thing is, I really love the improvement in presentation and interface from SFC3.

When people refer to SFC3 as dumbed down. Just how much dumbed down is it? As in, what did they remove that makes it so bad compared to Orion Pirates?

I need to know that before making my purchase as I'm not sure if the game -really- is that dumbed down OR it is being shat on by purists? Kinda hard to tell wich one it is when people just say "dumbed down" but never truely goes into the details.

The best Starfleet Command version is Starfleet Command 2 Orion Pirates with Firesoul's OP+ mod. you can get a disk from dynaverse.net. HD patch is available for sfc1, sfc2 sfc2op

I played all 3 and I don't recall any of them being dumbed down per say. In fact as far as 3 is concerned if I remember it correctly they added some things. I find it interesting to hear people bad mouth SFC3 now days because honestly the reality is when it came out during the time it was all the rage and most everyone I knew in the ST gaming community during those days flocked all over to play it. To me I kept it simple. If your a Kirk type kind of guy or gal you'll play 1 and 2. If your a TNG type guy or gal you'll play 3. I am more of a Kirk guy so I played SFC 1 more often then not. lol I never tried the mods for this game sadly, but I suppose you could TNG the original if ya really wanted to. I was just having to much fun with the base game to even bother back in those days. lol

Well, tactics like teleporting mines is gone. The takeover of ships has been dumbed down and electronic warfare is gone. Shield has been simplified. That is what I noticed the most playing it.

Also, SFC3 is waaaaaaay more slow in a deliberate manner.

SC1 was one of the first games I bought with my own money. SC2 I played constantly. SC3 was one of my first dissapoitments in gaming, and lead me to never buy when stuff first comes out and to wait for reviews. TNG is awesome, and I was so looking forward to it. But the tactics were dumb down to the point the game might has well have been a flash game.

But the cloaking was well done and I kinda wish SFC2 had ship customization too.

But, yeah, apart from that it was very average.

I liked SFC1 and Orion Pirates. 2 was kind of problematic in some ways from what I recall.
