Bummer. Thanks for the info.
I wonder if it's todo with codecs or something.
If I remember correctly, Wing Commander 4 was released at a similar time on DVD but it was supposed to be run with Creative's DVD-ROMs. And back in the 90's with the way drivers worked back then... that was an issue.
Sometimes it has just to do with copyright or missing source-material (Homeworld Remastered Collection lacks the addon for Homeworld II because of the latter case, to give an example).
So, it might be that source-materials other than the original game were deleted at some point, or someone involved in the making of the DVD-version (while not being involved in the original game's development) said "no" or is not available for taking requests.
That's a real shame. Copyright is such a bane on the digital industry at times.
Hopefully in the future modders can rectify this.
Dunno man... the game itself would look EXACTLY the same with slightly better cutscenes, which are not that heavily used in the game. On a game like "Star Trek: Klingon" I'd be with you, as this game is a complete interactive movie entirely made of movie-sequences, but not on this one.
Also, a modder would need permission to even release the files on his own. Just doing so would put him on thin ice for some spiced up fmv's. Not worth the risk, if you ask me.
