Technically in freecell you can only move one card, to move more than that you must have free 'cells' at the top to store cards in as they are moved. So when all four are empty, you could move a stack of five cards because you can fill up the four cells, move the fifth one, then move the cards back. Freecell is friendly in that it lets you automatically move stacks when you have cells available. You can also move more cards if you have free columns (and are not moving cards to the free column) as some cards can be moved there, then the ones above move to the target before moving the original set back onto the ones that were previously above it... I don't know iif that all makes sense, but hopefully will help you understand what is going on...

You move cards kinda like you do in "Tower of Hanoi" (not exactly because you can not put a 9 on an 8 for example but i hope you get the idea). The game just does it automatically for you when you are able to move more than one (meaning you have free cells where you can park you cards)

It was not explained, I don't know if clicking tutorial will explain it but the first level did not at all and does catch people off guard

A tip to prevent this confusion even without explaining freecell in game would be to animate the automated movement so people can see what's happening behind the scenes.
