Wax and wane
Can someone please explain to me the wax/wane perks, please? I have several Moon Bishop cards that are supposed to +0/+4 on wax and gain 4 health on wane. The only time they have done either of those has been on the summon. I feel like I am missing something here, but the description says they should be waxing/waning every other turn.

Wax and wane are *not* summon triggers they are "when played" triggers

And that's just beside the point that what you describe wouldn't even be a summon trigger, but "on your turn do X" triggers. Which wax/wane aren't either. They are also not a keyword... ;)

They only have worked when summoned. After playing Moon Bishop after there was no added shield or health.

That's how Wax/Wane works. It's basically a toggling Summon ability (but not REALLY a Summon ability) that's Wax if you play it on an odd numbered turn, or Wane if you play it on an even numbered turn. You only get one and it only happens once.

That poster is wrong, wax and wane are summon effects and they only trigger at the time they are summoned (from any source, not just when played from hand). It's not an ongoing effect on every turn which is what seems to be confusing you.

The point of the wax/wave effect is to choose the right moment when to play the cards for their different effects on odd or even turns (or get both effects with a few rare cards).

It is not a summon trigger

Play Ulfrics Uprising when you only have wax/wane on the board, notice how you can't.

The effect also states "Wax/Wane *when played*" (Which you can do by anything that removes a card and replays it, or disappears/reppears it)

For quick test you can play Frazzled Alfiq and A night to remember, notice how it repeats, you can also repeat it with Zumoog and it even interacts with moongate from these effects.

Overall it behaves kinda like summon, but also not. In that it can only trigger again if the creature leaves the board somehow.

I understand now it is not supposed to be active for each turn as I was interpreting. You all had wonderful explanations, thank you!

What I' ve experienced so so far with wax/wane is, that it behaves exactly like a summon abilty though it is not considrered to be a summon effect. For example creatures will trigger their wax/wane effects when summoned by cards like "Necromancer" or "Conscription" but won't work with "Ulfrics uprising" or "Dragon priest mask".

btw It's kind of cool that wax effects trigger on odd Turns because the word "wax" has an odd number of letters in it and same with wane for even turns
