Can't start a game

So I don't know what's going on, but I can't start a session in the game. I can make characters and choose characters, then when I go to choose between singleplayer or multiplayer, once I select single player or start a multiplayer session, the screen just blacks out and goes nowhere. If I move the mouse around, I can hear the noises of the buttons and even press them, but they don't do anything unless I hit the back button. I can also hit escape and go back to the main menu.

So effectively, I can't play the game. I tried removing the playerprefs from the appdata folder, and that didn't change anything, so it seems like I can't play the game now. What's weird is that I've played the game in past updates some odd amount of months ago, so I don't understand why it's not working now. Any help is appreciated.

That happened to me once but I restarted the game and it fixed. If you already removed the playerprefs then you have nothing to lose so maybe redownload the game?

So it turns out that what was causing this problem was me running a server for ARK at the same time as playing this game. When I shut down the server, the game ran fine. Sidenote: when I say I removed the playerprefs, I mean I just moved it elsewhere and ran the game, then moved it back after, so no progress lost.
