My previous save gets deleted

After I manually save the game I realise that my previous save gets deleted. I'm supposed to have at least 4 saves now as I'm in the beginning of the game but despite my 4th save I only have one which is the most recent save.

I actually had the same problem in The Cat Lady as well but The Cat Lady was a worse experience as towards the end of the game everytime I saved, that saved completely vanished despite not even being close to the maximum limit so I could never save my progress and had to do everything in one sitting.

But anyway I completed that game and now my problem is with Downfall. I tested to see if my one save file would completely vanish once I quit the game like it did with The Cat Lady. Fortunately my only save was there, but I'm still scared that it might happen as I had gone through the same thing in The Cat Lady when I neared close its ending. I really want to have multiple saves to fall back on to be on the safe side.

How can I fix this?

Hi there, is your save games folder Read Only? This is what usually prevents saves from being written. It can happen, so it's worth checking that folder is not set to Read Only. The folder typically in users\<you>\Saved Games

Now, although it is typically fine if something is set to Read Only there, not all operating systems or computer setups will "accept" that fact. So removing that flag is usually the best option.

Keeping in mind that this is also about data being written, it's worth checking you are running the game with the right privileges (ie Admin) so that it can read+write save data.

Furthermore, don't forget to utilize the Quicksave feature, F1 to F4, which should give you up to 4 additional save files.

In the save games folder, if things are working correctly, you will get files ending 046-050 with respect to Quicksave & Autosave files being created properly and 001 to 045 for any that you name yourself. regards!

Hello, thank you so much for the reply :)

It was set to Read Only however I couldn't disable it. I researched the matter and found out that I needed to change admin priviledges of the folder. Despite trying everything step by step, my computer refused to recognise the change and Read Only remained checked no matter how much I tried to remove it.

Funny thing is, I mistakenly pressed Quicksave 1 button during my gameplay today and this fixed my issue. I could start having multiple saves again and my previous saves didn't get deleted any longer after I had one "pure accident" Quicksave :D

I also had this issue. I found that only last the last save in a particular session was saved. Try saving the game then exit the game.
