So is this a remake of the 2009 Downfall or is it different?
I played a disturbing game called downfall back around 2009-2010 where it kinda took place in a hotel. I wont spoil anything considering I dont know if this is that very same game, a remake, or a totally different game with the same name.

Here is a link to the one a played a while ago. I'm a sucker for horror games but I don't want to own the same game twice.

It is a remake of the game you linked to.

However, I played that version myself first and I still found that buying/playing the remake was worthwhile. The artwork has been entirely redone, plus there's a new soundtrack and voicing... and while the plot is not hugely different, there is/was enough there that I still really enjoyed it (and I'm still planning on going through the game again so I can get all the achievements).

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

It's a way different. While it shares same characters with the original game, there's different encounters and different endings. Besides, it continues theme of The Cat Lady, answering some questions from that game. Not to mention a way more user-friendly gameplay: no more pixel-hunting, no confusing useless items in inventory, etc. Must play.

I hoped that the fish and the toast are going to return in the remake :)

We were thinking of adding these infamous red herrings last minute... But instead I decided to focus on polishing the already existing elements to make sure that the game doesn't break ;)

ok thanks for the infos. played the original as well and was thinking about buying the remake ^^
I don't like some of the changes they made... it's still a good game... but I would have preferred if with the Sophie story they had sticked with how it was in the original. I thought that was alot more interesting to what it is now. Well I will just play the 2009 Downfall now.

If I see the two as seperate games they are both very intresting on their own.

Well, if we're talking about things we miss in the remake,
I really liked Black Widow, Waxworks and that little part of the town we see in the original; the new Axeman looks exactly like Joe, just pale and deranged; I miss the paper doll quality of The Cat Lady sprites; and what I really miss is the scene where Joe and Agnes share a cigarette - it was an anchor, the one normal thing in all this surrounding insanity. Loved that scene in the original.

When I launch downfall I get a choice for the 2009 one anyways. So you get both?

Hi there. Before you continue reading this message, you should know - I'm very very happy that this game was released. Seriously this is the best gift for me for Valentine's Day in 2016. So, thank you very much.

But I have one question and this haunts me. I should ask why you changed the object of the experiments of Dr.Z? When I finished the original game I just said to yourself: "Wow, so that how it does. Dr. Z was psychotherapist of Joe and brain's import events in hotel is just psycho metaphor their real life". But in remake Axeman was replaced for Agnes. Well, her role in this nightmare was explained in the end of the game, but I really doesn't know how to tie her and Dr.Z. Unlike Downfall 2009. Why was it cut (or radically change) the storyline for people who did not play the original game? Or there events is not canon anymore?

So if you understand this message (I really hope so) please give me the answer. This is very intersting theme for me.

P.S. Sorry for my language. I'm not practise spoken English very often.

It is a remake of the original. I think it is a good game. Cat Lady is awesome too.

The only change I found somewhat confusing was that all of a sudden Joe seems to have been starving Ivy rather than force feeding her. Doesn't really make sense to me, unless it had something to do with Harrison actually representing a part of himself similar to say, James and Pyramid Head. But even then, in The Cat Lady, we could clearly see Joe electrocuting a fattened Ivy. What's the deal with that?
