2)Hounds count as small targets, meaning your spearmens bonus vs large doesnt apply, which in turn translates to a low chance to hit against them. Swordsmen will beat them handily though. Ice wolves are large, so spears do better against them than swords do. Either infantry unit should do ok against them though, the key is to have them in position to intercept the back line harass before they get into your shooting.
3)Heavy cav, which you clearly have access to, is a great counter for both, even knights should run them over on the charge, and a unit like reiksguard will absolutely mulch those puppies.
4)Magic, most notably net of ammyntok, can be a great, albeit kinda pricy and late game counter.
5)Outriders are terrible in melee, you should never let them fight unless youre out of ammo and need to get some rear charges/have been reduced to no viable alternatives.
