The Empire has TANKS? but the Dwarfs do not??
So I was coming to the end of my Dwarf Campiagn and the Manlings all started loosing their minds after having defeated the Chaos invasion..
I had just killed off the Vampires because they kept raiding Zhufbar and at times trying Karak Kadrin. Well so I guess the manlings had no one left to fight except each other so they started declaring war on one another. Leading to me getting drawn into a war against the Empire.

Prior to that I had no clue that the Empire had TANKS but I had been thinking all thru the last half of my campaign that Dwarfs should have tanks since they have copters and with their relativ size would be a perfect fit for tanks. Now since Dwarfs do not have any early stage or otherwise cavalry, tanks just felt like the natural technological progression for heavy armour using fighters. Thus tanks being something that Dwarfs would be inclined to fielding.

But Nooo no tanks for the Dawi, the Manlings tho they get feckin tanks.

Dawi don't like being carried by something that's not their own stuntie-legs, except for Thorgrim atleast.

That's a great big load of greenskin drivel you are spewing Jesse ;P
Well actually, dwarfs don't trust any machine that's not been tested for a few millenia, and steam tanks are 'only' a few hundred years old so...
Btw, the steam tanks are very rare anyway (in the lore) because their inventor died without writing down any blue prints and no-one ever managed to re-create the thing.

Darn, then I ran into the last few Steam tanks in existense?! It was a 1v4 battle I was so close to winning but I failed to take out one of the "many" steam tanks.

Well, in lore there are (I believe) 7 of them, ingame htey are unlimited in number :/ so luckily it doesn't really matter.

Eight, according to Lexicanum[whfb.lexicanum.com].

"All existing tanks were designed by the famed genius Tilean inventor Leonardo of Miragliano. After the inventor's death, the secrets of the Steam Tanks were lost with him and engineers have so far been unable to successfully construct any new ones. Only twelve tanks were built, all with varying configurations. Only eight Steam Tanks remain, the lost four having been destroyed during testing or in battle."

If the dawi decided to try and reverse-engineer a Steam Tank, it wouldn't be getting into even the prototype stage for another four or five centuries at least.

I bet the pressures of righting the wrongs in the book would have them rolling out much better tanks then the humans within a few turns.
Really fast ones with say a anti armor/heavy/flamecannon main gun and a secondery armament of nice anti infantry goodies(flamers/torps) ooh yes. Maybe even get into making APC variants with turreted organ guns/pintel mounted torpedo weapons and hatches from which a embarked squad could fire from..

As someone said earlier; the dwarfs don't trust any machine that hasn't proven itself over a long span of time - it's considered revolutionary that Thorgrim Grudgebearer rushed Gyrocopters into their main military after "just" fifty years of testing.

If they can't get a steam tank working to their exacting standards, they'll tear the whole thing down and start over. Now imagine that happening dozens of times with every single iteration of the design. And then for every prototype they build for field-testing. And then every single production model.

Squats had the best tanks.

Dwarves, the other white meat.

Utter rubbish, Dwarfs are red meat. Dark and slightly smokey, but quite tough. I reccomend 3 hours stewing in beer to bring out the flavour and allow edibility.

There are several reasons they don't

1. They don't have the tech, and any attempts by dwarfen empire engineers have failed

2. If they did it would still be in the testing phase for the next 300 years at the very least

3. It would do pretty much nothing for them since they do 99% of their fighting underground or in mountains

4. Most dwarfs don't like to be carried by anything except for other dwarfs
