Can I choose to NOT reinforce my own army/settlement?
I'm sorry if this has already been asked/answered, but my search didn't turn anything up.

TLDR: I want to let my settlement burn on its own and not have my nearby army reinforce it. Can I do that?

Details: I have a very small settlement (6 defensive stacks) that was being attacked by a tiny Chaos army (2 nearly dead lord/heroes and half a stack of calvary) and moved a new half filled army in just to support and hopefully surround and finish off the lord/hero before they escaped. However, the Legendary Chaos army broke off from their siege of a different settlement and force marched all the way to support their tiny army. So now, I have very lost cause where both the settlement and my reinforcing army will be decimated. So, I would rather just leave my army out of it so they can pull back to a stronghold with more support. But that doesn't seem to be a choice. I only have the Fight and Auto-Resolve options. No surrender and seemingly no option to leave my army out of it.

I am betting you have no movement points for your army. Your only option is to engage in battle with your garrison. Once your reinforcmeents arrive, signal them to retreat.

Chances are though, the enemy will re-engage after the battle because the can (I call that cheating but the game calls it balance).

I recommend you stand and fight and take as many of those #A($*ing Sons of Chaos out as you can. Who knows you might win.

My only achievable goal in fighting is to finish off one or two of those nearly dead hero/lords.

I don't have any movement left, but they aren't attacking my army just the settlement. I've actually gone through the fight after using the quicksave. After getting decimated, my army (the half left) retreats and the Chaos army can't catch it. It's not a big deal, just an annoyance at losing half of a newly recruited army (not that I don't have the gold to replace them, but still).

I've started a Greenskins campaign after looking for a mod (and not finding one). I'm sure I'll go back to it and trash the Chaos soon...just have to get my 5 or 6 full stack armies out of the south.

I think what you mean here is that your army was devastated; not decimated, which means reduced by 1/10 (by, not to, 1/10).

I think what you mean here is that you want to nitpick word choice and not add anything to the discussion.

he means, your army is devastated, suffering grief and emotional loss from watching everyting get burned and 90% of their buddies dying.

My advice, reload an earlier save. Ive noticed if I reload an earlier save because an army destroyed my undefened town... sometimes when I reload, the enemy army will move in a different direction and not attack the town... random number generator fun?

I actually did end up reloading an earlier save, but not on purpose. I started a Greenskin campaign and used the quicksave function before a fight...realizing just after the moment of pressing the button that my most current save on my other campaign was also a quicksave.

I can assure you that, had your question not already been answered, I would have addressed it. I have been on Steam forums too long to expect a thank you, but I hope you and others who read this thread will go away with a proper understanding of the term, nonetheless.

This is a military simulation game which has attached to it over a decade's worth of fan base from the historical titles, who are usually familiar with the use, meaning and origin of this and other military terms. If you are to have success in seeking advice, you will profit form a proper understanding of the terminology.

If you seek advice while thinking that, for example, flank and rear mean the same thing, you are liable to confuse those seeking to help you, and be confused yourself by their advice. To say that your army was decimated in a battle is to say that you left the battle with 90% of your troops intact; this is a very favorable result in most TWW battles. Given the context of your use of the word in the OP the reader can understand what you intended to communicate, but that is circumstantial. In future you might not be so lucky with your descriptions; moreover, left uncorrected, others being introduced to this term, might come away with a misapprehension which could be similarly detrimental to them.

I know I'm reviving an old post, but I saw this and couldn't help it.

If you were a fraction as intelligent as you're pretending to be, you'd have some idea of how language works, and how to communicate with people. But you're not intelligent, you're just clearly autistic.

Or are a troll have a terrible sense of humour.

Either way, look up words before spending several paragraphs embarrassing yourself.
