Blackscreen

I am currently playing the main campaign, with no mods or DLC installed (except Warriors of Chaos). This game has been running fine since launch.

Saturday evening (16/7/16) I downloaded the latest small patch. SInce then I have had issues with loading the campaign. After the loading screen completes, sometimes it goes to a black screen with only the cursor visible, and the usual background music playing. Sometimes it displays the campaign map, and then after 5 secinds or when I move the cursor, it goes to a completely black screen. I managed to play a little this morning, after the load screen led into the campaign map, which then pixilated madly before stabilising.

When on black screen, the only response I've been able to make is to go to desktop and shut down W:TW from task manager. The last time I tried loading W:TW campaign, even this failed, and I was forced to pull the plug and reset the system.

While I'll be testing other steam games, trying other save files, or other parts of W:TW, I hope that this is something uncommon and easily fixed.

Anyone else running into this issue?

Yeah it was playing fine for me sat afternoon yesterday but this sunday morning I get black screen over much of the campaign and battle map making it unplayable I have no idea what they did to cause this and I tried reinstalling it but it still stucks and if I go to DAY 0 pre update the game wont load.

Well.... I'm not sure if this is the complete explanation, but I did get one...

As of last night my PC crashed again while on TW;W, and would not restart (apprently). I took it on for service this morning, who informed me that the graphics card had got clogged with dust and had burnt itself out.

Which probably explains the system crashes and flickering.

As for the "few seconds and blackscreen" I tried other load files and quickly ending the turn, and that seemed to alter things enough that it moved on and stabilised.

Not a fix, but possibly a hardware issue exacerbating a software glitch...

EDIT: Having also had my graphics card side-graded to a Nvidia Geforce GTX 960, I have not encountered any blackscreen issues since.

I have this damn black screen issue! After the end of a turn or a battle, screen goes black and game is unplayable.

Hi, I had black screen when starting total war warhammer with sometimes splash screen but usually not, then the sound of the introduction movie, then sound(s) of menu and warhammer cursor but the rest all black. This problem occurred since the game performed an update. To make room on my limited SSD disk, I had deleted some files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\data. The game then downloaded this again as part of the update. This has happened many times before with no problem but I suspected a problem there. I took a look at C:\Users\Olivier\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer\logs at the file "modified.log" and saw the message "shaders.pack" missing. I then went to steam app on my PC > total war warhammer > properties > local files > check game cache integrity. It then said that two files were missing and automatically downloaded them again. After this, the game worked fine again. I think that if you have this issue, I would look first at your graphics card, it's drivers being up-to-date, direct x version and then also your game installation.

Underclocking the graphics card (about 10%) with MSI Afterburner has helped me with this issue.
