Screen Flickering during Campaign Map and Real Time Battles
IDK what is going on, but I never had any graphics issues with the game until now. Whenever I load up my save and get to the campaign map, the 3D map graphics flicker. I have to scroll up to tactical map in order to now have to stare at the screen. Additionally when I engage in a RTS battle, the whole entire battle map flickers. I've tried turning off V-Sync and lowering my settings but its still an issue. Are there any solutions on how to fix this or do I have to wait for a patch.

My Specs:
Intel Core i7 3960x @ 3.30 GHz
16 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 690
Windows 10

Do you mean the GeForce Experience?

And I doubt this can be blamed on CA/SEGA...this is usually a GPU-side issue only (unless you were blaming nVidia devs).

hi everybody,

Sorry for my english, i'm french.

I had the same problem with my GTX970 SLI.

The only thing you need to do is desactivate the G-SYNC from nvidia.

To do this, you need to open the nvidia panel and click on G-SYNC, and desactivate.

It's ok for me now.

I hope it will be usefull for you.

Ty for the suggestion, but i dont have at all the G-Sync option in the nvidia control panel, meaby depend on the monitors that i use?

Anyway just to update, i rolled back my nvidia drivers, the one wich where working fine with warhammer and.....nothing.....the game still flick as hell. I also reinstalled the game having the old drivers installed but nothing at all.

I dont have the knowledge to say who is messing up but....in window mode the game goes fine so i guess CA can (and should imho) fix the issue.

had the same problem with my nvidia cards ( GTX 770 2gb sli ) but it was fixed up with a bit of nv inspector edits ^_^there is a tutorial here on the forums somewhere, its a 5 minute fix for the flickering.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. These things are rarely one sided. CA needs to make sure their game is compatible with the current hardware and its drivers. And they don't achieve that just by programming the game in a certain way, they actually need to share code with AMD and Nvidia so that they can make optimizations in their drivers, and fix the bugs in their drivers if there are any. They can't do anything without access to the necessary code.

AMD already has the game ready drivers, Nvidia don't. So it's clear, CA has been a bit late at sharing with Nvidia as Nvidia said they were working closely to resolve issues one day before launch. It's been nearly a month now though and we still don't have a driver.

So in short, I blame them both. It's clear there has been a lack of communication, and so we need to deal with these problems. Of course we can't really say for certain if these issues are caused because of the game or the drivers or both, since we don't have the necessary info for that, and they are not willing to share. The only thing that's for certain is the fact that CA and Nvidia aren't doing a very good job of working together to resolve them.

This is not the first time it happened, this has been happening since Rome 2 in fact. It took time for Nvidia to release drivers for Attila as well. In fact back in Rome 2 launch, Nvidia released a statement saying that CA didn't share the necessary code in time and that was why we didn't have the Nvidia drivers for the game, if you remember. At least V-sync was working fine though.

So simply blaming Nvidia is unfair. And considering this is CA's game, not Nvidia's, it's up to them to make sure that at least a simple and basic option such as V-sync works correctly on all hardware. Let's be honest here, this is not a feature that needs a special driver or something, it's not like it's a new experimental graphical option.

EDIT: I just learned that Update 1 is in the final phases, namely it's being tested and will be released soon. Says so here: https://forums.totalwar.com/discussion/178892/what-are-the-total-war-teams-working-on-updated-24-06-16/ Let's hope we get a fix for this soon.

Thanks for the infor Batviper. In the meantime, I've been playing Warhammer total war on my laptop as it does not flicker or have weird graphic instances when I play

I read a post similar to this a little bit ago, one person suggested to try and run it in windowed mode and to lock your frames. You know how to do that?

You are welcome. Perhaps we'll get a proper fix for this next week. Until then I am going to have to put up with all the screen tearing. But I'd rather have that over Windowed mode or UI flickering.

I am guessing your laptop has an AMD GPU, or perhaps an Intel one? Those two don't encounter these issues.

No the GeForce Experience panel is an other thing.

If you're english try to search nvidia panel on your Windows. in french is "panneau de configuration nvidia".

For Cronod : I don't know if the G-Sync option depend about the monitor you use. For me it's more like an nvidia's option, an improvement about v-sync technology.

Guys i read somewere an easy fix for the sli, i tried and work for me (well, i will explane better leater)

From the nvidia control pannell go to: manage 3D option, then the right tab (program setting i believe, i have italian interface) and choose total war warhamner (if you dont have the latest drivers will not appear in the list but i guess if you add manually will work anyway)
Then in the: SLI rendering mode option set: force alternate frame rendering 1

Worked for me and hope is useful

Now my problem is.....if i use all the 3 monitors with the nvidia surrond the sli rendering mode option will not show in the menù. But if i use just one screen the game goes fine.
Cronod 24. juni 2016 kl. 9.56
And finally is working again also with 3 monitors and latest nvidia drivers.

I had to use nvidia inspector. I folloved the instructions from this post https://forums.totalwar.com/discussion/178777/screen-tearing-only-without-v-sync-flickering-with-sli

As been very easy for me. Download and open inspector, click the hammer and wrench to go to the profiler. From the menù in the top choose totalwar warhammer and all the needed values where alredy set. Hit apply changes and now goes again!!!!!

Hope can help

Thanks for the info, this should help people with SLI configurations. Us single GPU users need to wait though, there is no way for us to make V-sync work properly (well windowed mode makes it work fine, but then you lose performance, and it makes the game stuttery). I am glad you can enjoy the game now at least.

@Batviper thank you for the info. Was not aware of the similar issues of Rome 2 and Attila, so it does seem the issue originated at CA for this miscommunication with nVidia.

No it has an Nvidia 970M GPU and I don't think it has SLI so thats helping I guess.

You are most welcome. At least we didn't have flickering issues back then though :P This reminds me, back when Shogun 2 was released it took about two weeks (perhaps even more, can't be too sure) for Nvidia to release drivers for the game, until then we were stuck with some weird lag on the campaign map. This has been a trend for a long time now.

If only we could get some clear answers though, back in Rome 2 CA and Nvidia played the blaming game. Guess they don't want to do it this time. I posted again on their forums about this, no response, again. The last response I got from them was about three weeks ago. They said that we should use one of the workarounds and sit tight for now, until they can figure it out.

At least we know the patch will release soon, so I guess we'll find out soon enough if it will help us with these problems or not. Don't know what else to say at this point to be honest, this is pretty unacceptable. And I am very very disappointed. At least the game is good, at least in my opinion :P

I had to force alternate frame rendering to use my sli setup, I load of the game after not playing for a few weeks to see the sli seems to have been properly implemented but now I get this insufferable screen tearing. Thank you to all who have posted. Is there a rough ETA on a patch for this issue?
